GPT4ALL - free open source PRIVATE tool. Anyone using this?
I've used multiple LLM's on the free app GPT4ALL with complete PRIVACY. It runs on my PC ONLY, it will save & use my questions to add to it's local learning DB. I can point it to a specific folder of docs on my PC and it will read them all so it knows exactly what I wrote in the past & does NOT share it with any other site. Basically - it's a private Ai that I train with my own docs. ~ I just heard about PrivateGPT, but it's trickier to install if you're not a nerd already. GPT4ALL gives a choice of 5+ Ai models, some give short replies, some are geared for long deep replies, etc. Highly recommended for PRIVACY and businesses using RFP's / proposals / SOW's, etc. I use it for writing my books w/ out sharing my writing with a cloud Ai. I use different chats - each pointed to different doc folders. It can read past chapters and gain context. I have a fiction & a non-fiction chat going. The worst thing I've experienced is that software updates lost my past chats, but it's easy to just re-enter the path to my docs. I've lost data before in life (save & save often), so I was copying & pasting every chat into a doc in my fiction folder for project A, and same for non-fiction project B. My second annoyance w/ the app was that, when I first found it & got it working (easy) there were maybe 13 different LLMs (some were specialized & not for me) & I was asking several of them the same questions to get their vibe, but after an update there were only 7 models & after another update there were 10, etc. Last thing... it's hard to describe, but I think the above issue about "loosing your chats after an update" is fixed in the software now - IF - the LLM / local DB that you were chatting with was NOT updated. SUMMARY: Privacy is a top concern for me - especially when working with client docs or writing my own business docs & creative content. I'd love to hear if anyone else has tried the app or has the same concerns RE: privacy! https://gpt4all.io/index.html
