Guys I’ve received a lot of feedback from you guys (READ THIS)
I know this week’s assignment is a bit challenging, but just try your best and follow along with my recording. I’ll go through the rest of it with you guys during class. If you find it too difficult, join the live session on July 9th and I’ll go through it in class. 😊 For the next few assignments, I’ll be introducing you guys to different short stories. By the end of the month, you’ll have a few stories that you can choose from and confidently showcase. It doesn’t have to be perfect—the main goal is to see how much you’ve improved throughout the course. Let's do this!

Question from Fatima: How Do I Add Emotion Without Changing My Mandarin Tones?
Emotion is something you layer on top of your tones. Your tones should still be clear and recognizable, but the way you deliver them can change. You can show emotion through your energy, your speaking speed, your volume, and even your pauses. So you can say the exact same sentence with excitement, seriousness, happiness, or sadness—all while keeping the tones the same. We'll definitely train this later because speaking with emotion is a huge part of sounding like a native speaker. But for now, don't stress about it. This month, I only want you to focus on your pronunciation and tones. They don't have to be perfect, but they do need to be clear and consistent. Once you've built a solid foundation, adding emotion becomes much easier. And that's exactly how native speakers do it. First, they learn to produce the sounds correctly. Then they build emotion, rhythm, and expression on top of those sounds. So once you've mastered your pronunciation and tones, and if you want to take your Mandarin even further, we can start working on more advanced skills like emotion, rhythm, intonation, storytelling, and even public speaking. But for now, focus on building that foundation first. Once that's solid, everything else falls into place.
