Hmmm... Shouldn't every day be Earth Day?
Zone 8b New Garden space
Ok sounds good... in zone 8b, its time to get some transplants in the ground soon... If I did till this first year, I would not go deep 2 - 4" is good... the compost would be great as long as the leaves and greens are broken down. If the leaves not full decomposed, they can still be used for top mulch after the plants are 8" or taller to protect the soil from the sun... It will be very important to make sure no soil is left exposed to the sun... What's growing in your area now?

@Jim Flach Yes, I have chives, thyme, sage, sorel, lovage, feverfew and garlic chives right now. I have to replace my rosemary which unfortunately didn't make it through last winter. I will be planting some basil, barrage, cilantro, chervil and savory. Carrots seeds and Parsley (the type you harvest the root) are already in the ground. Peas and beans are starting to sprout. I plant a lot of my herbs in pots since we don't have a large yard. I also planted two Bartlet pear trees along the property line about 12 years ago. All the trees you see in the background is a small reforestation area which is specifically nice to have because I don't have to look at the townhomes behind my house in the summer. šŸ˜‰ Picture is of the rosemary that didn't make it. 😢
