Hi community! I’ve not been active since attending the summit because we sold our house (closing today!) and are moving to San Miguel de Allende, MX later this month! Inspired by Erin and several others… I believe I will be a better contributor to the social change we all want and need if I am not living within its crosshairs! A propos, I wanted to share one of the projects I’ll be focused on: #SistoryLessons. I think it will appeal to many of you as we try to envision a rebuilt society. https://brave-sis.kit.com/posts/7-1-25-introducing-sistorylessons and if you wish to follow this the sign up is here: https://brave-sis.kit.com/b7aee0785e We have a long way to go but we are not giving in. xxRozie

Ethnic studies 101
I was reading in the Guardian today how Gov Gavin sanctioned this ethnic studies as a qualification for graduation in California - but it has since been rescinded. I’m so proud to have been a Californian for a decade, and to have lived in the East Bay, where this approach was “my bubble.” It inspires the way I approach my work and particularly chapter nine of the curriculum I launched last summer for aspiring allies and others (https://bravesisproject.teachable.com/p/playbook) which was about the perils of ignoring history and context. I wanted to share the links to all the lesson plans here, because there are resources in here we all can use and adapt to our ongoing learning. We certainly have a national (global) need for this education but too many folks are resistant, fearful, embarrassed, uncomfortable, unbothered, or straight up spiteful and dismissive. https://www.liberatedethnicstudies.org/chapter-one-intro-to-ethnic-studies.html https://www.liberatedethnicstudies.org/chapter-four-asian-american-pacific-islander-studies.html

Post summit resources
Forgive me, friends, I’m in a transition to live out of the country, so I am not keeping track of things! Was there an email sent with resources and links from the speakers? Thanks!
The DEI Summit is outstanding. <3
@Erin Corine Johnson, we're not even done with day one, and I just want to say you've created something beautiful and empowering with this summit. Thank you for doing this work (it's not easy to pull these things together), and we witness it.💞

Where do we access the links to recordings? I registered for the full summit but am traveling the rest of the week. Thx!
POLL: Emojis & Skin Color (Hear me out...🫣)
OK, so I've been holding off from bringing up this topic here for a while because I know there are soooooo many more important topics and conversations about race we could be talking about here. But I realized I may not be the only one holding back from asking certain silly-feeling & -sounding questions or starting conversations about more minor, everyday things in this safe community of incredibly smart, strong, and empathetic people. So I'm going to try to make a concerted effort going forward to start posting questions that are on my mind and heart, even when something is holding me back (mostly that I feel dumb), and worry less about how y'all might view/judge me to focus instead on what I (and maybe somebody else) could learn from sparking a discussion. OK, so here's today's question.... 😅 I've always defaulted to using the yellow ones and never gave it much thought until I started hearing more murmurs about why some folks find that problematic. https://www.npr.org/2022/02/09/1078977416/race-chat-emoji-skin-tone-colors But because I help manage several online communities that are led by Black business owners, whose members lean non-white, I've been thinking/worrying a lot about this whenever I use emojis (which is kind of often. And I'd like to keep doing so. 🤣) I'm curious what you think about the potential effects of defaulting to using something that is meant to represent neutrality, because it's the simplest/safest thing to do. Do you have an opinion/thoughts on which skin color you use for texts, posts, etc. that you wouldn't mind sharing?
