Low Mids messing up my masters 😭
Hey guys! Recently I've been trying to figure out how to balance low mids without reducing it unnecessarily or having too much. I find that's been my huge issue with mastering, any tips in terms of tonal balance or the frequency range balance between frequency ranges?

For context what I mean is the issues I have with low mids at the mixing stage, becomes SUPER noticeable in my masters
Noob Question
Does anyone here know where people get the stems they need to DJ? Do they just have connects with labels or something? Is there a database? A subscription? Are they paying for the instrumental and vocals of every song for every set?

You can use certain websites to seperate tracks into stems, there’s a bunch of AI ones that will break up drums, keys, instruments, and vocals and so on. Of the top of my mind I remember Lala.Ai. You can also use eq to separate the elements of a track. There definitely are some databases and some connects going on but these websites are the tools that are easiest and most accessible.
Mix opinions and feedback (hip-hop)
I work mostly in hip hop. I’m making new beats to make complete songs with and work toward releasing. I’ve very proud of this composition and I’m content with my mixing skills so far (volume, automation, lite eq) but I feel as though part of my problem might be lowering the instruments to match drums and then feeling drums are too low. And just flip flopping that process. Until my ears are fatigued and I’m just lost sonically. I’m thinking it could also be my eq and balance hearing isn’t all that. But I’m not sure. As for low end and mids, being in hiphop beat making and using 808s HEAVY. I have trouble getting them to come through to hear when I listen on different applications, mostly iPhone speaker and headphones (testing my mix on different applications) I’ll find my 808 is not present and my snares are very. Or I’ll have too much bass and it’s muddy. Trying to achieve that clean balance and not go back and just turn the 808 up and now have just bass. Let me know the good the bad and the ugly. Thanks ✌🏻

@Steve Maleski What I do is bounce the midi track in place. Then copy it. On one track (subs) us an eq for the lower frequencies 200 ish and below then make that mono. Then the other track (higher frequencies) eq off the low end and play with that as needed ie distortion, spreading, saturation, etc.
Need objective feedback on this mix
Did a mix for a friend and I need feedback on the sound, it’s a two track but I’m not sure how I feel about the main vocal on verse 1. All feedback is welcome

@Alonzo Mathis Not necessarily, I think a limiter/compressor (w a high ratio) is your best option atp. If you separated the mid to high freq and the bass into 2 tracks, you can go aggressive with gain control. Obviously use your ears but from what I hear don't be scared to duck that low end aggressively. I'd say reduce it til it feels like too much, then bring it back to a level you're comfortable with. Worse case scenario you can always go back to the original.
