@Justin Windham @McKay Caston Sorry I was out town you when posted McKay. This system has helped me a ton. The structure and questions helps. My current rhythm is: Monday read the text multiple times and begin to get an understanding of the passage and possible keywords. The Preach360 gives a structure to work through starting with the devotional questions. The exegesis guide is great as it guides me through the text. When I am finished answering the questions, I usually open in canvas and go deeper in certain sections - especially word studies. Then I work through keyword, PPGR statements, and an anchor illustration. I usually do 2 sessions - one in the morning followed by admin meeting and come in the afternoon to finish with a goal of having the keyword, PPGR, and anchor Illustration done by the time I go home. On Tuesday I write sermon and many times I am able to finish a rough draft and edit it. Wednesday mornings, I meet with other pastors who preach the same series at in the Fall and Spring to discuss the sermon. This usually means adjusting or adding something from the conversation to the sermon manuscript. Thursdays - I change the manuscript to a form I would use in the pulpit and practice it at lease twice. I take Fridays off and come back to the sermon Saturday morning to practice for it 1-2 times. On Sunday mornings I am up at 6 and ran through the sermon 2 times before heading to the church. I hope that helps! There have been weeks where I was done with the sermon on Tuesday afternoon - which allowed the rest of the week to practice it and do other ministry related items.

2 sessions: 1-11 vertical connection session 2: 12-17 horizontal connection

@McKay Caston I used a deep sea driver as the anchor illustration for both. Session 1, a driver cannot survive without the umbilical - the line to the surface. In the 2nd session, you never drive alone - you need a buddy, we were never meant to do this alone - we need each other. Session 1: 1. True purpose is found not in what we produce, but in our connection to the Vine. 2. We fiercely resist this connection because our flesh hates the vulnerability of receiving; we want to manufacture our own purpose. 3. Jesus endured the ultimate disconnection on the cross to secure our permanent, unbreakable connection to the Father's love. 4. Because our standing is perfectly secure, we get to live with deep purpose, knowing that true fruitfulness flows entirely from our connection to Him. Session 2: 1. We were not designed to fulfill our purpose in isolation, but through deep, sacrificial connection with one another. 2. We fear true connection because we are terrified that if we are fully known, we will be rejected rather than loved. 3. Jesus proved His love by laying down His life to establish an eternal connection with us, destroying the orphan spirit and bringing us into His inner circle. 4. Because we are fully known and perfectly chosen by Him, we get to drop our defenses, stop competing, and risk deep connection with our brothers.
iPad, paper, other? What do you preach from in the pulpit?
What do you use in the pulpit for notes? iPad? Paper? Handwritten? Typed? Full manuscript? Bullets? Why did you land there? What else have you tried? Why does your preferred method work for you? Can't wait to hear!

I use an 11" iPad and change the manuscript to a bullet points. I usually color code it and highlight certain words or phrases. Sometimes I will use the pen to add a note when I am review the sermon on the iPad. Still tweaking to find what works best. Here is last week's sermon.

@McKay Caston Yes the feedback has been great and we are all enjoying the series.
How are you using the Exegesis Guide?
I'm curious about how you're using the exegesis guide in the Preach360 Sermon Studio. Would love input and discussion on best practices with both the "generate it for me" and "guided walkthrough" options. 1. How are you using it? 2. What do you like about it? 3. How could it be improved?

The exegesis guide definitely helps me and to some degree I use it like commentary. After reading the passage I answer the questions one by one (although sometimes it moves on the next section - which means it does generate somethings for me). I do like the flow of the guide with putting it in a PPGR formate. After answering the questions and guide is complete, I will go back over the guide and add to it or ask it to explain certain things in more detail. I also like to add word studies that help explain the text more and many times find some good nuggets to use. Lastly, I will ask it to add significant quotes from commentaries I am referencing (for example: asking what does DA Carson say on this text).
