Hi all, I’ve noticed that there are a lot of new to nuke people or trying to get into nuke people here in this group, which is an awesome thing to see! There has never been a better time to get into the nuclear power industry! I’ve been making some lists of different types of jobs and places that hire for nuclear. What types of jobs are you guys looking for or interested in? I’ll be making some separate posts soon with links, info, and opportunities to share. There is such a wide variety of work and once you get into the industry so many doors will open and the possibilities are almost endless.

Per diem question to all
How much of your per diem do you currently save on average when working at different plants? 50%, 30%, 70%? Thanks!

@Peter Lauer you get paid travel mileage for your trip to the site and trip back home and then you get per diem while you’re there. You get the same amount of money whether you drive or fly and get a rental car. You’ll save a lot more money if you drive since you’re getting the same travel pay no matter what. You also can get reimbursed if you have to drive through a toll.

@Peter Lauer but if you’re not interested in traveling far, you can try to get into the 2 nuke plants in Florida. RSCS staffs them for RP, I’m not sure about any other craft
What’s your current job?
As you can see from my profile pic, I work in a warehouse for Pepsi. We work 4 10s, and build pallets and load trucks. Sometimes we have spills (see photo) this one was from Saturday. I like to take pics all year and put the best ones on a Christmas card and give them to my coworkers. Job satisfaction - 3/10

I’m a Sr RP Technician and a RP Supervisor for Torus Dives at the sites I go to that have a torus. I have had so many fun times in Rad Pro and wouldn’t change it for anything

@Matloc Mosher the torus is a donut shaped structure filled with water that surrounds the core/drywell in older boiling water reactors. It is for emergency cooling. If there is a loss of coolant accident, the hot steam from the core goes to the torus and condenses in the water and gets pumped back to the core. During a refuel outage there are inspections and repairs done to them. Since they still have water in them, divers in scuba gear do the repairs and inspections under water. This pertains to Rad Protection since this water is radiology contaminated and we perform underwater surveys and surveys on the divers/diver suits. Here’s a better idea of what a torus looks like:
