ADP is Dead Wrong in These 9 Backfields and Receiver Rooms
Treating Average Draft Position (ADP) like gospel is a great way to build a mediocre fantasy roster. One of the most profitable draft strategies is aggressively fading expensive players in "ambiguous" situations in favor of their cheaper teammates. In these nine rooms, the market has it completely backward. Here is why you need to draft the cheaper teammate, with the metrics to prove it. Chicago Bears Pass Catchers The Play: Draft Rome Odunze (62.7) over Colston Loveland (36.7) & Luther Burden III (47.3). Paying a premium third-round pick for TE Colston Loveland is a massive opportunity cost. Wait two full rounds for Odunze, a true alpha who commanded a 24% target share and an elite 2.30 yards per route run (YPRR) down the stretch. He is positioned to dominate high-value air yards. New England Patriots Backfield The Play: Draft Rhamondre Stevenson (75.3) over TreVeyon Henderson (52.7). Avoid shiny new toy syndrome with Henderson. Stevenson is a proven commodity, hovering around 3.2 Yards After Contact per Attempt (YCO/A) with top-15 rushing success rates. At a two-round discount, you get guaranteed high-floor volume and goal-line duties. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Backfield The Play: Draft Kenneth Gainwell (103.3) over Bucky Irving (53.7). Irving is an expensive leap of faith, while Gainwell projects to dominate high-value PPR touches. Gainwell consistently posts an elite Targets Per Route Run (TPRR) rate above 20%. Let others draft Irving while you grab cheap trailing-game-script points late. Carolina Panthers Backfield The Play: Draft Jonathon Brooks (115.0) over Chuba Hubbard (72.3). Forget the idea of early-season safety with Hubbard. His efficiency plummeted in 2025 to a dismal 3.8 yards per carry, managing just a single touchdown on 134 attempts. Instead, target Jonathon Brooks. Now fully healthy entering 2026, Brooks boasts an elite 90th percentile college prospect profile. His explosive collegiate metrics point to a true three-down workhorse waiting to be unleashed at a massive discount.

I definitely would. Honestly, I think AJB is going to be a massive league-winner this year. His ADP has been hovering around the late second round, but ever since the trade to New England, his ceiling is through the roof. He is going to be the undisputed alpha target-hog for Drake Maye with virtually zero competition for first-read targets. If you're drafting at the 10-12 turn, grabbing him at the start of the 2nd (picks 13โ€“15) is a totally justifiable reach to secure an elite WR1. I actually just drafted from the #2 spot and got insanely luckyโ€”I managed to pull Jahmyr Gibbs in the 1st, Saquon Barkley in the 2nd, and somehow AJB fell to me at the top of the 3rd. If you can pair him with a top-tier running back at that turn, pull the trigger!
Draft Review: Super Flex, Pick 11
Context: Super Flex league, drafting from the 11th position. The strategy included drafting 2 QBs in the first 3 rounds and waiting on Defense/Kicker. The Quarterback Strategy - Round 1 (11): Jalen Hurts (Phi - QB) - Round 2 (14): Jayden Daniels (Was - QB) The Core Build (Rounds 3-9) This section forms the foundation of the team and looks quite strong, offering a balanced attack. - 3 (35): Breece Hall (NYJ - RB) - Excellent value in the 3rd. A true RB1. - 4 (38): Tetairoa McMillan (Car - WR)โ€”High-upside WR pick. - 5 (59): Emeka Egbuka (TB - WR) - Solidifies the WR corps. - 6 (62): David Montgomery (Hou - RB) - A reliable, high-floor RB2/Flex option. - 7 (83): Sam LaPorta (Det - TE) - Securing a top-tier TE is a great move here. - 8 (86): Brian Thomas Jr. (Jax - WR) - High-ceiling flex play. - 9 (107): Tony Pollard (Ten - RB) - Excellent depth/flex option this late. The Bench and Flyers (Rounds 10-16) The strategy to forgo defense and kicker to stockpile talent is smart in the off-season. - 10 (110): Josh Downs (Ind - WR) - Reliable depth. - 11 (131): Jonathon Brooks (Car - RB) - High-value stash. If he takes the starting role from Hubbard, this is a league-winning pick. - 12 (134): Tyler Shough (NO - QB) - A fascinating deep sleeper. If he replicates his late-2025 form, getting a potential QB3/flex starter here is a massive win. - 13 (155): Brandon Aiyuk (SF - WR) - Regret Pick. (Planning to drop for Stefon Diggs). - 14 (158): Emanuel Wilson (Sea - RB) - Smart depth move, especially capitalizing on Seattle's backfield situation early in the season. - 15 (179): Juwan Johnson (NO - TE) - Functional backup TE. - 16 (182): Rashid Shaheed (SEA - WR) - Incredible value in the 16th. A dynamic playmaker who could thrive in a new offensive scheme. Key Takeaways and Evaluation What Went Right: 1. Core Foundation: Drafted an exceptionally strong core (Hall, McMillan, Egbuka, Montgomery). They provide both a high floor and a high ceiling. 2. Late-Round RB Value: Getting Brooks and Pollard late offers tremendous upside and necessary depth. 3. Elite TE: Landing Sam LaPorta in the 7th is excellent value. 4. Strategic Roster Management: Using the K/DEF spots for flyers early in the off-season is the optimal play.

@Draco Paul In drafting for fantasy, a lot of the battleโ€”especially in the middle roundsโ€”is making sure you find players who provide a solid weekly floor but also have added upside. The waiver wire is a huge part of building a championship team, and while we'll focus more on that when the season begins, the approach is similar: you're looking for players who offer both consistency and high-end potential.

@Draco Paul Great question! Yes, they would be great additions to your team. I definitely like some of these players more than others, which is exactly why I created my Top 100 Fantasy Football Rankings to help guide your drafts. As for Achane specifically, with Slowik's new scheme, he would be a very nice target right around the end of the 1st round or the start of the 2nd.

@Draco Paul First, my rankings may change as we get news, but they're entrenched for now. I expect a Barkley resurgence, so I'd take him in the 7-12 range.ย IMO Here is why you should draft Saquon over the guys in the next tier: - Over James Cook (BUF): Cook loses high-value red-zone and goal-line touches to Josh Allen. Barkley is the clear focal point of his offense with a much higher touchdown ceiling. - Over De'Von Achane (MIA): Achane has explosive upside but carries high injury risk and workload volatility. Barkley guarantees a highly secure, 20+ touch bell-cow floor. - Over Chase Brown (CIN): Brown is unproven over a full season. Barkley has a multi-year track record of elite production and is the far safer anchor for your team. - Over Christian McCaffrey (SF): CMC is turning 30 and coming off a massive, highly taxing touch volume. Barkley is younger and has a much cleaner path to unmanaged, heavy volume.

Fair point on the TDs! Burrow definitely leaves those for his RBs. But here's why I still give Barkley the edge: The Bengals are a pass-first team, where Brown is a complementary piece to Burrow and the passing game. The Eagles, on the other hand, are a run-heavy juggernaut, and their offense runs through Barkley. Saquon is going to see significantly more total touches and yardage simply because of how Philly plays. Even with Hurts taking some goal-line plunges, I'll take Barkley's guaranteed volume behind that elite O-line every time.
