Gear talk
Hi all, here’s an idea for a topic for discussion: the gear that we use, whether that’s for gigs, recording, or home practice.

@Gary Sanz I was on a quest for Blues Junior, but it just didn't happen. Along the way, I came across a solution for recording direct with a Blues Junior -- the "H&K Red Box". It connects between your amp and the speaker, and provides a line out (or XLR out) to your audio interface. The new amp I bought (H&K Tubemeister Deluxe 20) has one built in, and it works great.

@Pete Dawkins I too bought a tube amp (just recently) to see what it was all about. It's still novel for me, so I'm preferring the tube amp over the Helix modelling, but yeah, hard to beat a good modeler for what we're doing.
Welcome! Introduce yourself + share a pic of your music space
Hey, and welcome to my community for electric blues guitarists! Let's get to know each other! Comment below sharing where you are in the world, a photo or tour of your music space, and something you like to do for fun (outside of playing blues guitar 😉).

@Ben Johnsen Thanks Ben! Yeah, that was my only electric guitar for a long time. Probably the reason why Fenders don't feel right to me (gasp!). Most of the things I've 3D printed have been rather boring, nothing related to music -- plastic bag clips, tv-remote holder, chess set. I tried printing some picks/plectrums, but they didn't turn out great, and not worth the time and effort. It's great to see your site up and running, I've been waiting for the day! I hope it's as successful as I believe it will be. Cheers, Rob

@Pete Dawkins I remember those! I'm not doing much printing these days, but my son is looking for ideas of things to print that he might be able to sell. So, yes please, send the files for both. Thanks Pete! Cheers, Ropb
What do you think?
So in the next couple of weeks, I'm going to start creating my first mini course. I've decided to do a mini course, rather than one HUGE course, as I think everyone struggles with different things, so if I can create mini courses that focus on just ONE particular problem, students will have more choice of which problem they want to focus on, without getting overwhelmed with a load of unnecessary information. These courses can then be laser-focused and super specific. I've come up with a bunch of ideas and wanted to get your thoughts on which sound the most interesting or the most useful. I'd like to eventually run these mini-courses as short workshops, so maybe once I've created the course, you guys can dive into them, and then we can do a short 4-week live bootcamp on the topic. I think you can vote for more than 1, and if you have any thoughts on this or additional ideas, let me know in the comments 👍 NB: Here are some other options that didn't fit in the poll: 11. Play awesome blues guitar by yourself (without a band) 12. Build your own blues loop to practice over 13. How to learn blues licks, use them, (and never forget them!) 14. How to develop your blues vocabulary (without learning 100 different licks!) 15. Spice up your minor blues solos at your next jam 16. Must know theory for blues guitarists that you can use (and that’s actually fun to learn) 17. How to improve your blues phrasing (without more scales, notes, or theory!)

For me, the ones that stand out are: - How to mix major and minor pentatonic - How to use arpeggios / chord tones - How to play ... two King boxes. - Rhythm over a shuffle Also from the "didn't make the poll" list, two ideas that sound closely related, and what I really need... 13. How to learn blues licks, use them, (and never forget them!) 14. How to develop your blues vocabulary (without learning 100 different licks!)
Check this out!
I've just stumbled on this old video on YouTube, and it's gold! This guy is not only a serious guitar player but an awesome educator, and I resonate with a lot of what he speaks about. What do you think?

I used to avoid learning solos note for note, thinking I wanted to create my own instead. But I have finally come around to his way of thinking that learning a solo note for note is a good way to develop your own style. Learn the solo, then forget the solo if you want, but keep the ideas and skills.
Today’s Hang
