It's Working!
My first attempt at making pre-compost wasn't doing well, so I redid the bin. It started working - albeit slowly. I cheated with a special ingredient on my 2nd bin and it just surpassed the temp on my first bin with 2 or 3 less days! Spent Mushroom Substrate was the special ingredient. Since it is full of biota already, it seems to be jumpstarting the process! I'll upload a video tomorrow and show my setup.

@Cherene Packard I was watching some YT videos - I've been obsessing with them lately - and someone was talking about them. I did a search and found a mushroom farm near me. They create a LOT of these things and were very excited that someone wanted to take them. They also had a ton of broken down boxes - WITH NO LABELS OR TAPE TO REMOVE - that they were excited to give away as well. More free stuff! Coffee grounds, cardboard, mushroom substrate - now to find some free fruits and veggies!
Just saying โ€œHiโ€
Nothing much. Just posting to say Hi and to see if this will count as my first post. Ha

Hola @Terry Decker !
What temperature do worms need to be in?
This is a question I get a lot! For red wigglers, they thrive in the 70โ€™s. Do not put them in the fridge unless youโ€™re about to use them for fish bait! If you put them outside, watch the temperature swings. Feel free to post questions, contribute to answers, etc. you can pick the category for the question you have! We are all here to learn together! ๐Ÿชฑ ๐Ÿฅฐ

Ok, I have a question. My 3 buns are at abiut 70โฐ. I have a breeder nursery with your cocoons, my vermouth for composting and a breeder bin. I got the pound if worms from your referral. I have ONE heating pad and both the nursery and breeders like it to be warmer. Which should I use the pad on?

@Cherene Packard No, it's not very cold. I have them in the furnace room, which is the warmest room downstairs. It's staying about 68 down there. I think the nursery is probably the right choice as a lot of the worms I put in the breeder bin looked pretty young. Maybe give them a month or so to stop being teenagers and then go for the breeding. In the meantime, optimize the nursery. Ok! I have a plan!
