Um...?
What are these orange thingies? Some kind of egg? There haven't 'been worms on these - well a couple - but not enough to make all of these, so they aren't cocoons. Mites?

@Jason Evans i'm going to say, "No." But I think you figured it out. I checked my latest pre-compost bin and it has them too. It was driving me crazy, there's no cross contamination there! But there sorta is. My pre-compost now and before all had SOME SMS in it. It's probably the left over seeds from the SMS. Scott uses some SMS in his grow out bins, I wonder if that's what we both have. Time will tell! I'm keeping at least 1 of those bins to see if anything hatches. The rest are going back in the rotation.

@Jason Evans it would make me very happy for you to be right and me wrong!
Hand Picking Fun!
A first for me. I took my 1st bin and handpicked - yes, without gloves so I could get the squirmies easier - 600 mature breeder worms out. It was actually just short of 600, so I stole a couple from another bin. I'll give them a couple days to get acclimated and then I'll start their 21 day cycle. 3 more bins to go through, so I need to get busy! I.want these 3 or 4 breeder bins to be a week ahead of the new ones I start when my next batch of worms arrive.

🪱 Weekly Worm Farming Office Hours are Here!
🎉 July Launch Month! All Office Hours are open to the community throughout the month of July. Beginning in August, Office Hours will become a Premium Membership benefit. Starting this Monday, July 6th, at 12:00 PM Central, I'll be hosting live Worm Farming Office Hours every week. These are live group calls with me (Cherene) where you can ask questions, troubleshoot your worm bins, and learn alongside other members. This is separate from our 24/7 Community Hangout, which is always available for members to chat with each other. Whether you're just getting started or you've been worm farming for years, you're welcome to join! Bring your questions, photos, or videos, or simply listen in and learn from everyone else's questions. Some topics we might cover: - Feeding - Moisture management - Bedding - Worm castings - Cocoons & breeding - Troubleshooting ...and whatever else comes up! I'm really excited to finally launch these, and I hope you'll join me Monday!

Major Bin Reset
These are the 4 bins that I had put what turned out to be mostly dead worms on. After cleaning off the dead ones, the mess left behind - despite me trying to get it all - attracted swarms of fruit flies. So I sprayed with dunk water, then went through the bin SLOWLY and picked out the few surviving worms - about 60 out of over 2,000. Now I have them out in the sunshine for the day - 93⁰ later - and going to bake them to death. Talk about a super fast dry down! ;)

@Cherene Packard got worms coming! Gotta save the bedding! Way more important than the whales after all. :)

@Cherene Packard it's supposed to cool down significantly next week and that's when they're shipping.

I help people stop staring into the fridge, feed themselves better, and let worms turn the leftovers into black gold.
