A beloved film you hate, an under-rated gem and a guilty pleasure. Go!
Beloved/Hated Shawshank Redemption. OMFG a hallmark card come to life, filled with sappy cliches. I hate this film. Hate hate hate! Admittedly it's been years since I saw it and maybe I should rewatch. Maybe it's not that bad. But I can't rewatch because I've invested so much of myself in hating it, so I'm going to stick with that. Also in contention, Field of Dreams. Ugh. Under-rated Gem: Love Lies Bleeding. An absolute masterpiece in film noir and fantasy and passion and crime and all those good things. Right up there with Bound in terms of great female characters that are burning with life. Guilty Pleasure Armageddon. Bruce Willis flying to space to blow up an asteroid that's going to destory earth? LET'S GO! Also anything with Sharks. Including Deep Blue Sea, about a beautiful scientist harvesting the brain tissue of DNA-altered sharks as a possible cure for Alzheimer's disease. What could go wrong?! Luckily, Sam Jackson comes to save the day. I loved it so much I dragged my entire family to see it. After there were like... why did you make us watch that? Ingrates.

Beloved/Hate - Tank Girl - it's the only film I've ever walked out on. Underrated gem - Pastime with William Russ - baseball in the 60's and in a grounded way. Guilty pleasure - "La Fille de d'Artagnan (Revenge of the Musketeers) with Sophie Marceau and Philippe Noiret. So much fun!

Kia ora- Hello everyone- my name is Richard Kerr-Bell from New Zealand living in Wellington. I started play around with writing movies and ideas about 30 years ago when listening to my uncles and dad talk about their childhood adventures, challenges, characters, and adversity. They were so vivid in my mind. I was a counselor for a number of years working with kids, families, secondary school students and prisoners- every story was rich with so many dimensions. Anyway I finally finished a PhD and was challenged to write a movie related to it so I did- last year. Since then I’ve written another feature and two shorts. I’ve got another 10 lined up in the next 3 years. Favourite movies- Star Wars 1977, The God Father, Jason Bourne, D’artagnan’s Daughter, All the Mornings of the World, Pastime, Moneyball, Top Gun, Hitmans Bodyguard. So many. Learning all the time.
Happy New Year, people! What are your writing goals for the coming 3 months?
Lot's going on here. I'm developing courses, a challenge, ads, even a possible lecture series for this group. So, plenty going on behind the scenes. But let's get specific about what YOU are working on and what specifically you want to accomplish in the next 3 months. Not the whole year. Thinking in terms of a year doesn't give us enough heat underneath us to get things done. We need shorter, more specific goals. Let's build accountability. Starting today. So... drop below what you are working on, hope to work on, are thinking about maybe working on... and see if we can't light that fire and fan that flame so in the next 90 days, you are not just talking about writing, but actually getting meaningful work done and thrilled with your own progress! Accountability starting now... who's in?
