Jooba Weekly #2
This weeks lesson with 9 chords gave me inspiration to play around with the chord progression in Every breath you take by The Police. Please note that there are 2 videos…one where I improvise with the chords from the song and one where I play the song itself. https://youtu.be/mYiBtjXwss8?is=Je96yL3cVONwS3IR

All right - I decided to pick the D AM G G progression and combined it with the mixed picking/strumming pattern. I decided to loop it in order to keep working on soloing over the changes, which I want to get better at to improve at coming up with fills. It's the first time I tried this over a three chord progression so it's still very hard for me. It was a lot of fun and I love how much it feels like making music. At the same time I am not sure if that really practises the skill I am going for. But at least I start connecting chord shapes with their corresponding scales and drill that a bit. I'd love to hear your feedback - especially if you have any idea how I could improve at coming up with riffs in between chords. Plus my soloing is either very slidy or boxy 🙃 If there are any ideas on how to make it sound better I'd love to hear them. I'm very much looking forward to all of your uploads! 🥳🥳🥳 https://youtu.be/dSG-TPv7Jag

Very nice Jay, I like the chord progression and how you play the melody on top. Did you come up with that melody by yourself? Is it D Am and G in the chord progression? If so, what scale do you use for your melody? Those chords are in G major but if the tonal center is D, I think it is D Mixolydian (D is the fifth in G major). When you play your melody, do you think about targeting notes in the chord progression? That is something I practice on right now. This week I practiced: - The Pattern of the Week // (Pi) DmPiD - Some nice chords (Bm11 and Am9) - Triads and how to play triads on 2, 3 and 4th using A-shape triad and from there find the minor triads (2nd, 3rd and 6th) and also the 4th and 5th. Chord progression in first video: | Amaj9 / / / | Bm11 / / / | Esus4 / E7 / | Amaj9 / / / | and | Bm / / / | E 7 / / / | A / / / | F#5 / / / | Chord progression in 2nd video: | Bm11 / / / | Esus4 / E7 / | Amaj9 / / / | A/F# / / / | and | D / / / | E7 / / / | A / / / | F#m / / / | I like the sound of the Amaj9 and the transition Esus4 to E7. Yes, great exercises you mention! Thanks man for sharing. Singing, humming and playing the guitar beats all apps but an app can be great on the bus to work!
