Connecting Deeper
Your readers know you write, but what else do they know about you? The largest number of responses and follows have come from photos with me on various motorcycles. Although I don't drive, I ride "backpack" or "*itch", but it's a part of me rarely seen by my readers. I strongly recommend that you share your hobbies with your readers and potential readers. Connect with them on a deeper level to make them WANT to learn more about you as a person and as a writer. Happy connecting, my friends!

@Gary Anderson That’s awesome! Yes, I’ve tried to “educate” people about the pitfalls and scams we face daily. I don’t want anyone to experience the same disappointment.

@Sarah Bean Thank you so much!!!
Scam
Trying to keep everyone alerted to scams, I am now replying to scammers with actual company emails so they realize I’m not gullible.

What conversation do you hope your book starts?
The best nonfiction books get people thinking, talking, questioning, or seeing something differently. What are people having conversations about after reading your book?

@Roger Magalhaes yes, I, too, believe everything happens for a reason.

@K J Lord no! I’d be a nervous nutcase if I had to deal with the unpredictability of earthquakes.

@Rob Cole As always, they were offering me a package for “featuring” me as an author to their community for a price, of course.

@Rob Cole I know. I’ve been scammed about three times, so I’ve made it my mission to alert others about these scumbags. Lol
What Should Go in the Front of Your Book?
Most authors don’t lose readers in Chapter 3. If they even managed to sell someone on buying their book, they often lose them before Chapter 1 even starts. I just recorded a breakdown of something almost no one talks about when it comes to writing a nonfiction book: the front matter of the book! The title page, copyright page, dedication, table of contents, introduction… all the stuff people either copy from other books or throw in because they think they’re supposed to. Think about each page strategically. Those pages are doing more work than anything else in your book. They’re where a reader decides: - “I’m in”or - “This feels like every other book I’ve seen” If someone opened your book and only read the first 10 pages… would they be hooked or gone? Watch the video and then come back here and tell me one thing you’re changing 👇

I hook my readers with my prologue in Hurricane Helene Resiliency After the Storm because I put them IN the storm so they could FEEL the fear.
