Editing cannot save a video with no point of view.
The best-edited video I saw this month had motion graphics, animated captions, b-roll, and sound design. It got 400 views. A shaky phone video from a founder saying something I disagreed with got 40,000. Editing is packaging. Opinion is product. No amount of packaging fixes a product nobody wants, and viewers can smell the difference in the first three seconds. The platforms do not reward production value, they reward watch time and shares, and people share videos that say something. This is the uncomfortable part. Most creators avoid opinions because opinions cost followers. So they post tips everyone agrees with, tutorials everyone has seen, and motivation everyone forgets. Safe content is invisible content. The creators building real audiences in 2026 are the ones with a stance: they say the thing, they name the enemy, they take the side. You do not need better editing. You need a point of view strong enough that the editing becomes irrelevant. Film it on your phone if you want. But say something. What is one opinion your videos keep avoiding?

Of the five, the names fall into two buckets: specific outcomes (Confident Creator, Money Mindset Reset) and generic motivation (Business Breakthrough, Self-Belief to Wealth). Specific beats generic almost every time because a prospect can picture what changes. My pick would be The Confident Creator Challenge or The Money Mindset Reset Challenge, since each names both the person and the problem. One thing to weigh: the word 'challenge' is heavily overused in the coaching space right now, so whichever you choose, the differentiator will be a clear promise attached to it (a 5-day outcome, a deliverable, a transformation statement). A quick test before you commit: show each name to three ideal clients with zero context and ask what they think they will get. Whichever one they describe back most accurately is the winner. That test has saved me from clever-but-unclear names more than once.
MAKE MORE DOING LESS
In this episode of The Dept. I sat back down with Graham Cochrane for a conversation on how to build a business that makes more money without taking over your entire life. Graham shares the philosophy behind his book The Effortless Business and explains why business does not have to be as hard, heavy, or high-maintenance as most entrepreneurs make it. Instead, the goal is to build a business around constraints, value, leverage, and the gifts that already come naturally to you. If you’ve been overcomplicating your business, undercharging for your value, or ignoring the thing that comes easy to you, this episode will help you rethink what it actually means to build a high-income, low-maintenance business.

Graham's effortless business idea is really a personal branding idea in disguise. When the business is built around your gifts and your constraints, you stop competing on volume and start competing on identity. Nobody can outwork you at being you. The creators burning out are usually the ones building a business that fights their nature, more offers, more content, more complexity. The ones who make more doing less have usually done the harder work of deciding what NOT to do. That clarity becomes the brand. What is the one constraint that actually made your business better?

Michael, huge congratulations on book number two. Most people never finish one, let alone ship a second. What I love about a book launch is that it is personal branding in its purest form. A book is proof of thinking that lives forever, and it makes every future conversation easier because people arrive already trusting you. One idea for launch week: turn the best lesson from each chapter into a short video. That way the book feeds your content and your content feeds the book. What is the one idea from The Alignment Advantage you most want readers to act on?
MONETIZE YOUR GENIUS
I'm having Phil M. Jones BACK on The Dept. podcast! And it's going to be an absolute masterclass of a conversation about how you can monetize what you already know! We're going live today on Zoom for the recording at 3:30PM PST and we're taking Q&A at the end. So bring a question for either me or Phil! https://luma.com/va2jpngt

Omar, bringing Phil back is a power move. Exactly What to Say is one of those rare books that changed how I think about language in business. The magic words idea applies directly to what we do here. Most creators try to convince with volume, more posts, more content, when the real leverage is precision, saying the exact right thing to the exact right person. That is why a personal brand beats a content calendar. One sharp sentence from someone people trust outperforms a hundred generic posts. My question for Phil: what is the one phrase he sees experts misuse most when they try to sell their knowledge?
