This is a research and resource group: It is about doing simple experiments in order to learn things—like learning how to cook and learning to find foods that work well for you. It is also about people from Asia and Central America we now think of as wizards, who were really the best scientists of their day, who did things modern people no longer understand, but can still learn to do, thanks to books published in the last 60 years. We learn to do what they did, and as we do it, we realize that civilization is not what it claims to be. So those are the two basic areas here: Eating Awake and Civilization Undressed. As far as food goes, we work from two sources: What people ate from all over the world, covered in the books Nourishing Traditions (about 600 pages) and Nourishing Diets, and the part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) about food and herbs showcased in the book, the Tao of Healthy Eating (about 100 pages) and others. It is a 3000+ year tradition that tells us what different plants, animals, and minerals are good for. Using this information helps us eat in a way that takes care of our bodies, not just our emotions. We can actually eat what makes us strong, healthy, and energized—and there is no "one way", there are hundreds of ways that match what we individually need. To do that, understanding our own body is important, directly, like in a conversation. It is telling us things every day, even the parts that are breaking. TCM shows us how to hear what it is saying, and points us to what might help. So there are really two parts to this: Getting to know our own body and what it needs, and learning what might help and trying things until something works. I have been doing this for over 30 years, using these two systems, and what I make has to be easy to make, simple and uncomplicated—very few ingredients, only a few things at a time—and powerfully tasty, This is not the pretty food club. This is how to make food you love that does the job. You will learn how to make food raw, sprouted, fermented or cooked, animal or vegetable, and you'll learn to throw in herbs that work well with the food to meet specific health and healing goals. And you will learn it by doing short projects you can do in a few hours.
