Getting some input
Good morning everyone! I’m starting to look at creating my first CEU presentation but I wanted to see what the community felt regarding this topic. When we are working with a variety of clients, and we have a brand new staff start with that client, a lot of the times I’ve seen or have heard the BCBA say, “Just pair with the client.” This can be very vague for the staff and not give them the specifics of how to pair with a client. What I would like to do is create a presentation on how we can teach staff to pair with clients, when to pair depending on the environment, and different pairing strategies we can teach.

@Matt Harrington and sometimes you might even have to re-pair!
What does our field need?
I’m looking to branch out a bit and see if there are any gaps in services that I might be able to help fill - whether it’s something missing but needed to support our consumers, or something to support our clinicians (BCBAs, BCaBAs, behavior techs, etc). I have years of experience in public schools and am also able to provide fieldwork supervision. What are some areas of need (for consumers and/or practitioners) that you’ve noticed, or services you would like to see?

@Jerrod Zertuche yes!!! I have a non-behavioral colleague who knows a lot about the brain science behind learning in the classroom. We’ve given some trainings together and it’s so natural to talk about the interplay between behavior, the brain, and learning - I would love to do something with this!

@Lizbeth Cruz the two settings couldn’t be more different - it really is like having two completely different jobs! Is this a shift you’ve made recently?
(Never lose a CEU cert again) CEU Buddy- 10 more beta spots!
It's no secret I give out a LOT of CEUs. In this community, there are over 60 on-demand CEUs ALONE. But, it never fails that 1 week before my recert, I am scrambling to find my certificates and remember all my events, inevitably having to retake a bunch to get my 32 CEUs for the year. So I built CEU Buddy! CEU Buddy is one place to store your - CEU certificates and accompanying data (like type of event, type of CEU, etc) - Presentation Slides - Presentation Notes So they DON'T get lost in the abyss the night before recert. BUT I need your help! I have 10 more beta spots open (40 people already signed up) who are testing the software and helping me improve it. I would LOVE if you could be one of those people! Here is a link to the beta page. No credit card is needed to sign up, and you get 6 months of free access! https://www.ceubuddy.io/pricing

Darn, I was too late to the game for this! I could certainly use help keeping my CEUs organized….its always a last-minute search through my various emails to pull together all the info I need 😭 but also, I could probably help myself with some basic self-management strategies in place as well….
What does your desk look like before the holidays?
We are getting close to American Thanksgiving, which means most of us are getting some time off! For me, I have - 25+ open tabs - Way to many open To Dos in my notebook - Ipad playing pump up music - 2 Polo shirts that I have yet to put in the laundry - Plenty of coffee and empty mugs Let's finish off strong!

My desk is completely clean and organized! That way it’s easier for me to jump back into the endless to-do list when I come back 🫠 Now, my browser tabs…well, that’s another story. But no one can see those but me 😂

@Analiese Fazio honestly, I have terrible ADHD and I fortunately learned early on that having my physical space hyper-organized is essential to my ability to regulate and focus, otherwise there are distractions galore! I prioritize getting my desk/work space ready at the beginning of the school year, then I have made it a habit to tidy my desk before I leave for the day. I’m very motivated to keep it looking nice, plus I want to avoid the perceived social shame of having a messy desk 🥴
Growing the school systems
Over the last 10 years it seems the number of BCBA’s in the school systems has greatly increased, however from my experience most of that expansion is for “behavior reduction”. To me it feels like there is still marked room to see the science accomplish real meaningful change for our young ones! What do you see as the greatest opportunities within the school systems to be able to increase impact of behavior analysis? Do you have any current directions to make this happen or are there any barriers you are trying to overcome before putting it in to action? I am excited to hear everyone’s thoughts and visions! My Teams current direction here: 1. we have a 5 year plan to implement our brief assessment/skill building learning center model through “resource teachers” in SPED, empowering active skill building through a system designed for 1-2 hours per week.

I’ve discovered more bang for my buck with getting involved in systems work. MTSS, PBIS, district-level oversight teams. Progress feels a lot slower this way, but the impact over time is greater because I’m able to help shift the focus towards stronger training and emphasis on universal/tier 1 practices, improving and clarifying processes for requesting consultation, improving staff training plans and procedures, and having ample contact with many individuals across the district to continue planting and tending the seeds of mindset change!
