Technique or attitude? Which comes first?
Many professionals spend years perfecting their technique. They collect qualifications. Learn new methods. Refine their process. Yet they still struggle to become recognised. Why? Because technique without the right attitude rarely gets shared. And attitude without technique rarely lasts. The professionals who build recognised authority understand something different. Technique gives you competence. Attitude gives you consistency. Technique helps you solve problems. Attitude makes you keep showing up, documenting what you know, and sharing it with confidence. One without the other leaves a gap. The real question isn't whether technique or attitude comes first. It's whether you're willing to develop both. Because the market doesn't recognise the most knowledgeable professional. It recognises the one who consistently demonstrates their knowledge in a structured way. Authority isn't built by choosing between technique and attitude. It's built by combining both with structure. Which one do you think has held more professionals back: a lack of technique, or a lack of the attitude to make their expertise visible?

I really appreciate your knowledge and encouragement, Kevin! I am writing every day and trying not to overthink it. Keep your posts coming. I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, visualizing the finished book, and celebrating at the launch party in the gallery.
After almost 12 months, I've made a decision.
When I created this Skool community, my intention was simple. To build a place where professionals could discuss authority, books, expertise, and turning years of experience into recognised authority. I hoped it would become a place for conversations. Questions. Ideas. Shared thinking. The reality has been different. Although 77 people have joined, there has been very little discussion, very little interaction, and not one genuine business conversation or opportunity has come from the time I've invested here. That's nobody's fault. It's simply telling me something. Not every platform is the right platform for every idea. Over the past year, my work has become much clearer. My focus is now on developing Authority Architecture, The Codified Authority Framework™, the podcast, my writing, and helping professionals turn their expertise into recognised authority. Those are the places where meaningful conversations are happening. So over the coming weeks, I'll be stepping back from Skool and investing my time where I can create the greatest value. I'd like to thank everyone who joined me here. Your support has meant a great deal. Sometimes the most important business decision isn't deciding what to start. It's deciding what to stop. Love and light Kevin

Well done, well said Kevin. I appreciate all the encouragement and insight ... by stepping back from an effort that sucking time and energy without producing the results you anticipated, you are setting a good example for all of us. :)))
Quick question for you.
If I asked you right now, could you clearly explain what your book would be about, who it is for, and what result it delivers? Without thinking twice? Most people cannot. And that is exactly why they stay stuck. Not because they lack experience. Because it is not structured. I am putting together a small Authority Sprint — five days — to fix exactly that. But before I open it fully, I want to know where you are right now. A — No clear book idea yet. B — Idea is there, but not structured. C — Started but feels messy. D — Already written something. Drop your letter below.

Why I Built This Community — And Why It Matters More Than You Might Think
I want to tell you something about myself that most people in this space would never share. I left school with no qualifications. Not because I lacked intelligence. Because life intervened early. At eleven years old I was diagnosed with brain cancer. I spent nearly a year away from school. But, I could read, write, and count, and for the next four years I quietly chose the farms over the classroom. At fifteen I went back for the last two days to get my leaving certificate. Then I left. What I did have was a book that my Grandfather gave me. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. That book started my business education before most people had considered having one. I served my time as a carpenter. Started my own joinery company at nineteen. Joined the fire service. Built a property portfolio of 35 houses. Was days away from closing an enormous hotel deal in Turkey. Then the 2008 banking crash happened. I lost everything. Including my own home. In 2000 I had survived testicular cancer. I had already learned that life does not ask permission before it changes on you. So I went back to carpentry, and while I rebuilt my life with my hands, I quietly started building Babysteps Publishing on the side. Then came December 13th, 2013. A man named Martin Ward came to me with a manuscript he had carried inside him for sixty-five years. He was eighty years old. When he was three, he lost his mother. His father was a soldier who could not raise children while serving. Martin and his brother were sent to a Catholic care home in Dublin called The Artane, where what happened to them was something no child should ever endure. I read his manuscript and had to stop several times. I had never felt such emotion from a book. Martin did not have much money. I published his book for free. Not because it made business sense. Because it was the right thing to do and, I felt compelled to share it with the world. The book launched and reached number one in multiple categories on Amazon.

It's delightful getting to know you Kevin!
Start Here: Introduce Yourself 👋
We now have professionals joining the Authority Through Authorship community from different industries and backgrounds, so I thought it would be great to get to know everyone a little better. If you're happy to, introduce yourself in the comments using these three things: 1️⃣ Your name and where you're based 2️⃣ What you do professionally 3️⃣ If you wrote an authority book, what topic would it be about? I'll start. I'm Kevin Long, founder of Babysteps Publishing. For the past 18 years, I've helped consultants, coaches, and business professionals turn their expertise into, authority books that attract clients and opportunities. I'm currently helping professionals structure their expertise into frameworks that position them as recognised authorities in their industries. Looking forward to learning more about everyone in the group.
