📸 September Showcase Time! ✨
A little later than planned this month, as I’ve been busy with workshops and reviews, but let’s celebrate what you’ve been creating! Share your favourite image you created in September and tell us a little about it. What inspired you? How did you make it? Or why is it special to you? ✅ No theme ✅ No pressure ✅ No judgement It doesn’t need to be perfect or even finished! It could be a completed piece, a fun experiment, a work in progress, or simply something you enjoyed creating. Every image is part of your creative journey, and if it means something to you, it absolutely belongs here. Don’t be shy about sharing. Your work might inspire someone else to try something new, and this is a wonderfully supportive space to celebrate what we’ve all been making. ✨ A quick reminder: this is a sharing thread, not a critique. Let’s keep it positive, friendly, encouraging and inspiring. 💬 Remember to show some love to other creators too. A like or a kind comment can make someone’s day. 🙌 Can’t wait to see what everyone created in September! 💛

I recently had two fantastic macro models that were exceptionally cooperative: a speckled bush-cricket and a marmalade hoverfly. That’s definitely the perk of shooting macro at night—insects are much calmer. However, night shots almost always leave you with a solid black background, unless you place an artificial backdrop behind your subject. I only had a blue cloth with me this time. All are Stacks

Here is a comparison of a 66-image stack. The first two images are unedited—just DXO and Adobe Standard applied in Lightroom. On the left is Helicon C1, on the right is MacroStudio. In this case, Helicon cropped better (The stem is blurry around the edges). With MacroStudio, I would have to crop the edges manually. Other than that, I don't really see any difference. MacroStudio handled the halo around this dust speck better. 3.Picture.In this specific case, I'd give MacroStudio the edge, but that might look completely different with other stacks that present more challenge. The 4th image is the edited Helicon version, as I had already removed the dust speck and only tried MacroStudio afterward. 🐾 Live specimen - outdoors at night : Unknown plant bug nymph ca 4mm 📷 Camera: OM1 mk2 🔎 Lens: MZuiko 90mm pro macro 💡 Lighting: Godox v860iii flash 💡 Diffuser: AK diffuser ⚙️ Camera Settings: 1/100, iso200, F7.1 Focus-Stack 66 ⚙️ DXOPureRaw 6

It might be an orange springtail that snuck into your picture, but I'm not totally sure. Found these while mushroom hunting today as well!
I have a new macro flash, see it tonight on Macro Monday!
I have received a new flash (kind of) and I'll be talking about it on tonight's Macro Monday, who's joining me?

🍄 SEPTEMBER PHOTOGRAPHY CHALLENGE FUNGI & SLIME MOULDS
This month, we’re heading into the miniature world of fungi and slime moulds. Your challenge is to photograph fungi, mushrooms or slime moulds in a creative and interesting way. You could capture the whole subject within its environment, get in close to reveal tiny details and textures, experiment with lighting, or even create a focus stack for maximum detail. There are plenty of ways to interpret the theme, so don’t be afraid to get creative! 📅 CHALLENGE DATES: Entries open: 7th September Entries close: 4th October Live challenge review: 5th October I’ve backdated the start of the challenge to 7th September, when we decided on the theme during the live call. 📷 HOW TO ENTER: • Submit one high-resolution image • Include the photograph’s EXIF data • Your image must have been taken during the challenge period • Upload your entry using the submission form • Images added directly to the comments will not be accepted 👉 Submit your challenge entry I’ve also linked a few YouTube videos below that may help with ideas and techniques for photographing fungi and slime moulds, especially if this is a new subject for you. Please photograph responsibly and take care not to damage fungi, slime moulds or the habitat around them. I can’t wait to see what you find, autumn should give us plenty of fascinating subjects to photograph! 🍄

It's going to be tough to find any in Germany. It's still way too dry in the forest. Normally, you can go mushroom picking around this time, but there aren't any this year. I hope it gets wetter by October.
