An Introvert Expat's First Post
Greetings everyone! As my bio says, my name is Peter, and about 2-years-ago I moved to Thailand to fight Muay Thai and Work with a dog sanctuary. Leaving America was no easy decision, but with our current geopolitical/domestic landscape coupled with the "hustle culture" I found that it was necessary for my mental health. I happen to be quite the introvert (textbook INFJ), although in my content I will most likely seem rather outgoing :) I also have a degree in Psychology with a focus on Social Psychology and Substance Abuse/Addiction. I find the psychological aspect of moving to be one of the most important to one's mental health and overall well-being. There are always challenges, and with those challenges come huge rewards in terms of self-esteem when you're able to overcome a lot of obstacles (big or small) in a foreign environment. In my 40 years on this spinning rock, I've handled addiction (10 years sober/clean), struggled with both social and general anxiety and depression for much of my life, and have learned to accept and use my Neurodivergence, Autism, as well as general life experience as advantages when traveling and acclimating to a new community, rather than a setback. It wasn't always this way in the beginning, but through my process of integrating into a new (and much smaller) community on an island in Thailand, I feel like I could share a lot of really helpful tips into making a move go smooth. Even simple 2 week trips can be a daunting anxiety (if you know you know), but I would love to help. Thank you for taking the time to read, and I look forward to putting up as much content as possible! Should you ever wish to connect with individual or unique questions, I am always more than willing to help. All the best! Peter

Hello! I am a 40 year-old American who, between my introversion and anxiety, struggled to make the leap to move abroad. If you can relate, I can help!
