When I tell you I get all kinds of messages… believe me, I really do. 😂 Today, someone decided to insult me by saying: “You’re not the sharpest tool in the shed.” And honestly? It brought back a memory from when I was learning English. I used to love the song All Star (yes, the one from Shrek 🎵), and the first line goes: “Somebody once told me the world was gonna roll me, I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed.” That sentence stayed in my head for YEARS because I could never figure out what it actually meant. Then I realized it doesn’t have a perfect translation in Portuguese. It basically means you’re not very smart, but we don’t really have one exact expression that matches it. My theory when teaching Portuguese is simple: If you can create one sentence, you can create ten. If you can create ten, you can create twenty. Today, let’s learn one of the easiest and most useful sentence structures in Portuguese: Eu gosto de… = I like… Eu não gosto de… = I don’t like… For example: ➡️ Eu gosto de futebol. (eh-OO GOHS-too jee foo-chee-BAWL) = I like soccer. ➡️ Eu não gosto de futebol. (eh-OO now GOHS-too jee foo-chee-BAWL) = I don’t like soccer. Now think of other Portuguese words you already know! I’m leaving you a list of common verbs and nouns to help you. Try creating at least two sentences using this structure, then post them in the comments. Want extra practice?
