GEN Xers - Welcome Home!
Gen Xers are the most technologically adaptable generation in human history, from the dial-up modem to AI. Together we can overcome any challenge and AI is our next tech challenge. Let's learn it together. :) Share a picture of yourself and tell us what you want to learn about AI. I'll go first... I want to learn AI so I can be in control of my employment future.

@Rob Tabb Love that! That is part of the AI future.

@Rob Tabb I accidentally hit enter before it was done. I'm starting to dive deep into Claude cowork and working on testing that internally. I have some family members that are entrepreneurs that could use digital assistance. They'll be good use cases for me.
Late Introduction !
I love writing, reading, and speaking — in roughly that order. Turning 50 brought a surprising clarity: I’ve spent my entire life writing for other people. Ghostwriting, bespoke pieces, marketing plans with no byline — I’ve genuinely enjoyed every bit of it. But now I write for myself, on my own terms. I write because I love the English language. Studying it is one of my greatest hobbies, and I balance my practice between analogue notebooks and digital tools. I share my work online because I enjoy the reciprocal energy of feedback — the way a single comment can spark a new idea or sharpen a sentence. I’m always on the hunt for new books, and I love helping other writers strengthen their voice. How may I help you today?

So true.

Yeah, I'm very grateful that we were born in the analog age, because it's given us all the skills that people are missing today. Today. Interpersonal skills. Ability to adapt in social situations, etc. How did you get into ghost writing? What sort of material did you write in that space?
Getting back into the groove
Sorry I've been a bit quiet on this site recently. Helping my wife out after surgery. Process lasted longer than we anticipated but things are winding down. Looking forward chatting about Gen Xers living in an AI world 🙂

:) True. It's not going anywhere! And thank you. My wife is doing great.
A Cool Quote
“It isn’t surprising, then, that many writers are ambivalent, if not altogether neurotic, about bringing their work forward.” Found in Chapter 4 - The Self promoter from 2000 “The Forest for the Trees - An Editor’s Advice to Writers” Betsy Lerner Riverhead Books EDUCATION WRITING I thought it was a great quote as in 2026 writers must self‑promote - and often on social media (eg TikTok, Substack, Medium, Instagram, newsletters, podcasts). If anything, 2026 has amplified the ambivalence because the pressure to self‑promote is now unavoidable. Writers today live in a world where self‑promotion isn’t optional - it’s the water they swim in. What do you think ?

I think it's accurate, everyone online must self-promote. I think it will be more difficult for many writers because many of them are introverts. They want to let their words do the work for them. They aren't comfortable being out in front, but behind the keyboard... at least for many fiction writers I know. But, those writers that not only don't mind being the face of their own work, especially if they have any hint marketing instincts, can do very well.
Dissipates
What if some or certain AI threats just dissipated. Sora vanished because they wanted to move compute hardware cost to coding. Anthropic is paying Xai 1.26 billion a month to tap into their processing power in their colossus data center. SpaceXai’s IPO S-1 focus is building a moon base, space data center and chip manufacturing and colonization of planets. So what if the focus moves to coding or engineering or medicine of military and away from accounting or graphics, film and television? Hardware is king. Processing is paramount. Will it get to the point that smaller industries, business and careers are not in jeopardy just because they aren’t important enough to waste processing power on? Why waste it on film and tv shows?

That's an interesting take. Though, capitalists being capitalist, I would think someone would provide some sort of AI service to smaller businesses. It just may be slower and, maybe more expensive. Kinda like internet bandwidth back in the day. While big companies are getting fiber, small businesses are getting dial-up. All depends on whether the benefits of "slow" AI is worth the cost of the dial-up version. I find the evolution of the business of AI fascinating.
