Cranky, Wired, Anxious—Then We Changed His Diet
I’ve seen firsthand how dramatically my son’s behavior shifts depending on his diet. When he’s had fast food or sweets (and they were a rather rare treat in his life), buckle up—it’s cranky moods, restless energy, trouble calming down and difficulty falling asleep (which means neither of us can relax). He’d have nightmares and feel anxious or insecure, even before the sports activities he usually loves. Then something changed. After staying away from junk food and eating only home-cooked, plant-based meals for a while, he suddenly seemed more peaceful and mature—not in a “convenient child” way, but in a confident, happy, and more relaxed one. His sleep became more restful, anxiety faded, and his focus and curiosity for learning took off. Since he was five, we’ve done a few light raw food cleanses together. After just three days on a high-fruit raw diet, I saw a new level of independence and joy in him. I found him reading for long stretches and happily spending time on his own—something he had never really craved before. In that moment, I knew the truth – and so did my son.
