Welcome to Bluegrass Guitar Dads. Glad you’re here. To get things rolling (and help me shape useful content for the group), please take a minute to introduce yourself in the comments below: 1. Instrument(s) What are you playing these days? 2. One bluegrass player you love Could be a legend or a current inspiration. 3. What you want to improve right now Timing, rhythm, flatpicking, backup, repertoire, confidence, etc. This doesn’t need to be polished, just honest. We’re all balancing music, work, and family, and this is a supportive space to keep the music moving. Looking forward to picking with you. Trevor

Hey everyone, I've had this tab open in my browser for a week or two now and I figured I'd finally chime in. I'm approaching 56 years old, not a dad unless you count dogs, and have been a gigging (non-bluegrass) musician since I was a teenager. I suppose my first exposure to bluegrass was Old & In The Way, and I *liked* it, but I didn't discover bluegrass that I *loved* until I heard Bela Fleck's stuff (specifically "Tales From The Acoustic Planet" and "Uncommon Ritual") which, admittedly, was not actually bluegrass, but definitely bluegrass-adjacent, and certainly led me into the world of bluegrass. For better or worse, though, it didn't really occur to me to actually learn to play bluegrass until I heard David Grier's "Lone Soldier" album. He was the first guitarist who made me say "I want to learn how to do THAT." Which was unfortunate for me, in a way, because it was like barely knowing how to drive a car and getting thrown into the freakin' Indy 500. My flatpicking work has kind of happened in waves over the years, and in fact for the last few years I have kind of fallen off the tracks, but I still love it, and as my other musical projects are starting to wane, I find myself drawn back to it. I have spent a lot of time tabbing out solos (including several of Grier's), and am happy to share. I need to go through them, but I'll put them in a Google Drive folder and post the link when I'm ready.
