Something different from Paul Dewitt
I'd love to see some opinions here on this track. I took the original 1980's stereo track did a stem split in Logic and used Ace Studio to generate the vocals. My singing on this just didn't do it justice. What do you folks think? https://s.disco.ac/vnvpiwdstwja
the tracks downloaded don't line up
I sliced the tracks as they were into my DAW and they don't line up or start at teh same time like they do in FTM. I'm spending a lot of time frying to get the vocals lined up so they come in at the right time. I set the bit rate and tempo before I dragged in each track and they were all over the place. anybody else have this problem? I had it with another bunch of stems on a previous FTM also.

I don't like spending time on bad stems that don't line up when I drag them in. I'm using Logic Pro the latest version and a Mac Studio pro.

I had to start a new file to get them in on timing. There must be something wrong with my template file.
Close to finished what do ya think by Paul Dewitt
I like th sheen on the vocals but I might have gone too far on the high end. What do you think. I need some feedback so let's listen to each others' FTM masters from this month https://s.disco.ac/bupjvdxamfdw

FTM Feb 2024 Day 1 - AHA!!! THE BIG DISCUSSION
So what was your "AHA" moment? Learned something crucial??????

of course I'll give you this... It's hard to change habits like treating each channel while getting a a balance mix at first. But that habit HAS TO GO.

Normalizing vs Gain Staging
I've been doing some research on the topic listed above and wondering if there is a preference? From what I found, what we learned was the automatic normalizing function found in Logic, but it sounds like gain staging can be a separate process done to each track. Am I understanding that correctly, or is it really so simple as using the normalize function?

I normalize the whole project and they bring the faders all the way down except the track sum aux channels ( leave then at zero). Then I use Bobby Owsinski's balance meter cheet sheet to set the levels. I comes so close to where I end up that it's amazingly fast to get just a balance mix. Of course I pan as I go for duplicate tracks and I use different levels of pan not just hard right and left all the time. (It's just a preference )

I can do a balance only mix in less than an hour with these two methods so I love Logic Pro for that
