My heart and the old musician brain in me has been reading text for over a half-century with the 'voice' of whatever I read in print coming from my head...(and before anyone flips out, its not the same as voices just randomly blurting things out to me, LOL). Along comes this paradigm shift where I find myself writing, and shifting my focus to how the words will actually 'sound' when read aloud by someone else....much like a playwriter might imagine. So...my first serious "intentional audiobook" is an autobigraphical glymps of a Boy Scout's "coming of age" story centered around the 1965, 1st Panamerican Scout Jamboree in Rio de Janerio. The 'scout' part may not have a wide audience, but the 'coming of age' part has real world implications for today.

My process is much more a sequence that happens 'rapid-fire'. I look at the posts quickly to see if the moderator is posting stimuating questions/activities. I look at the Leaderboard to see who the most active members are...then go looking for the posts of those active members. I think that gives me a pretty solid metric on the quality of the group in short order...maybe it is my 'geek' showing through.
Turn Your Book Into an Audiobook for Free: KDP Virtual Voice Beta
KDP is testing audiobooks narrated with virtual voices. The beta is invite-only, so you may not have access yet. How to check if you have access: Open your KDP Bookshelf. If you see the option "Add Audible Audiobook with Virtual Voice," you're in the beta. If you don't, the feature isn't available for your book yet. Cost and voices: During the beta, creating a virtual voice audiobook is free. You can choose a different voice for each chapter in the Virtual Voice Studio. Keep in mind that the beta terms can change. Who can use it: The beta is currently limited to books sold in the US market. If your book is only available in other countries' Amazon stores, it isn't eligible yet. Before you start, make sure your manuscript has the right table of contents, so listeners can jump between chapters. Kindle Create can help you set this up. Beta: Audiobooks with virtual voice
