If you have a short script or a short film that needs finishing funds, consider Shore Scripts Short Film Fund. They will award a $15,000 cash production grant to one short script and $4,000 cash in finishing funds to one short film in post-production. We accept narrative short scripts and films (live action & animation), including proof-of-concept shorts for features & TV shows, from writers, producers, and directors around the world. Emerging and Reemerging Formats/Genres
The industry is always changing, and as creatives, especially in the indie space, we must be visionaries. With that in mind, over the next couple of days and weeks, I will be sharing with you spaces where you can break in. First up, Verticals, popularized by the Chinese market. I have mentioned this one before, but this is probably the format with the most potential. Vertical dramas (micro-dramas shot in 9:16 for mobile) are a $14 billion global market, and producers are actively hiring writers who understand the format. Watch Vertical Dramas - Your Next Writing Job Traditional TV staffing is brutal right now. Verticals have stepped in as a legitimate source of consistent work — especially for writers who can master the format quickly. We're talking: - 50-100 episodes per season - One beat per episode (Hook/Twist/Cliffhanger) - Visual-first storytelling (faces, hands, intimate close-ups) - Scripts that shoot 10-15 pages per day The writers who get good at this, NOW, will be ahead of the curve as major studios pour more investment into the space. Drop your thoughts about verticals below. Have you written for vertical dramas yet?* If yes, what's your biggest challenge with the format? If not, what's holding you back from exploring this market? And if you're actively developing a vertical concept, share your logline. Let's workshop the hook. P.S. — Know a writer looking for paid work? Tag them. Verticals are hiring, but you need to understand the format first.

The Uncomfortable Truth
“Go stand in a place where you feel uncomfortable, until you’re there long enough that it is.” — Ryan Coogler As writers and filmmakers, we have to be willing to do the uncomfortable things. That means exploring hard emotions, writing the scenes we want to avoid, and telling deeper truths in our work. Growth does not happen when we always stay in what feels easy. The more comfortable you become with discomfort, the stronger and more honest your writing can become. Sometimes the uncomfortable scene, feeling, or truth is exactly where your best work is waiting. Once you tap into this your chances of being hired, staffed, and produced increase exponentially. If you are serious about becoming a stronger screenwriter and moving your projects forward, join the Writer’s Room membership. It is a space designed to help you sharpen your storytelling, stay committed, and keep building.

Your Voice Is What Makes the Story Different
There’s a saying: there’s nothing new under the sun. Almost every story idea has been explored in some form before. But what makes a story feel new isn’t the premise — it’s your voice and interpretation of it. Your perspective, your life experiences, and the way you see the world shape how a story is told. That’s what makes audiences connect and what makes producers and buyers take notice. Two writers can start with the same concept and create completely different scripts because their writing styles are distinct. If you’re still discovering your voice as a writer, that’s something we focus on inside the Writer’s Room Membership — helping you identify your storytelling voice and use it to craft scripts that stand out and attract producers and audiences. Your voice is the thing no one else can replicate.

@Melissa Butler thanks for sharing just seeing this. I looked it up and saw the comments on her Instagram that it’s only for Los Angeles residence. I wish you would’ve put that at the top in the beginning instead of last cause I have been working on it already. Do you know of any other grants that are legit that actually has very specific details thanks for sharing for giving speech to text typo. Headed to sleep now.
