I sing for joy!
Kia ora, I sing for joy mostly, but am currently doing a course to reclaim my indigenous language which involves singing everyday. I have a loud voice, and am usually looked to to lead, but I know my control isnt great and I often go flat. My range also feels very narrow. We have so many beautiful songs in my culture that require quite high notes, and I can't hit them most of the time. Even when I try to sing high, I can feel the restraint in my throat. Never been formally trained so looking forward to all the tips and tricks.

I am Māori, and most of the singing I do is in Māori. The ng sound is quite a natural sound in our language and it was interesting to practice that and feel how it was protecting the throat. I sing everyday at the moment. We start our days with singing, have a a couple songs littered through the day, end the day with song, and then I teach language some evenings where I also song to help with language retention. Sometimes I'll go to events where there is also lots of singing happening, and if you know the song, you can't help but song a long. Since moving back to Aotearoa I've been more aware of my voice, knowing I'd like to improve and also look after myself so I don't burnout and overexert myself... while singing beautifully!
Day 1 Reflections
After watching all the videos on breath, I realise I don't utilise my breath enough. I either forget to breathe or take shallow breaths while singing. Going to school today and keeping breath in mind while singing!

what a good reminder that singing that's a lot of energy, especially when you're performing the way you do. It's also making me realise how much I use my voice, whether it's singing or sinply protecting because of the different roles I play in community, and of course it would take up a lot of energy! This is a sign to get back into my cardio training too 😆

@Johanna Gunnarsson it's speak to how if you cut a tree into many pieces, it is easy food for the fire, but if it is whole, then it will be harder to destroy. Similar to people and being strong within our communities to survive. This is te reo Māori 🖤🤍❤️
Day 1 - He Totara
This song is about how people and trees are similar and we must stand together to survive. I would've liked to sing it in a higher range, but this is what's comfortably for now.
