Really enjoyed watching this back. It was a great reminder that both recovery and becoming a recovery coach is a process. Taking things one step at a time, being patient with ourselves, and not taking on too much too soon feels really important. @David Collins, @Katie Cole, @Daisy Ashe @Marcus Ward

🚀 Mission: Mapping Recovery Capital - Family Contact Centers
Hey Team! David has set us a task for this week’s action point. @Olivia Steele and I ( @Marcus Ward ) are leading on identifying the "Recovery Capital" available to parents in recovery, specifically focusing on the Financial Burden, Supervised Contact Centers and Child Access Support. We aren't just looking for phone numbers; we are looking for services that actually work with families to design better support. This isn't just a list, it's about building a roadmap so no one has to "reinvent the wheel" when they hit a crisis. 📃https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QkXmZcO3hlD1XI7jqzM6RlHQXWVQPjqFVSbDWY6g0_Y/edit?usp=sharing 🎯 The Goal To create a verified directory of local assets that are trauma-informed and co-produced (designed with the input of parents and children).

Under the Bridge: Child Contact Services in Kent & South-East London@David Collins Child contact centres play an important role in supporting relationships between children and parents when families are going through separation or court proceedings. They provide safe and structured environments where contact can take place, sometimes under supervision, when there are concerns or when arrangements cannot be agreed between parents. During my exploration of the child contact landscape across Kent, I looked at both private professional centres and charity-run contact centres in order to understand the differences in cost, accessibility and support for families. The Price Divide One of the most noticeable differences between services is the cost of accessing them. Professional contact centres can require a referral fee of around £100, with supervised contact sessions costing up to £75 -£120 for both parents. For families required to attend regularly, these costs can quickly accumulate. In comparison, charity-run contact centres, such as those linked with community organisations, often offer supported contact sessions ranging from £0 to £40. In some cases, these services are subsidised or operate on a sliding scale depending on income. This creates a noticeable financial divide between services and the families who are able to access them. Accessibility and Service Models Both models appear to offer different strengths. Charity-based services often provide a more community-focused approach and may be more accessible financially. They may also draw on volunteers and staff with lived experience of supporting families. Professional or private centres, on the other hand, tend to provide more formal supervision and structured documentation. This can be important in situations where courts require clear records or professional reports. However, charity services often have limited capacity and waiting lists, which can make it difficult for families to access them when contact needs to begin quickly.
LERO Recovery Coach Certification 26 2 2026 (First official Skool Class)
Community of Practice – Session Reflection Today’s session reminded us why this space matters. We practised building the container properly — check-in, contract, agenda, listening, values, action, accountability. Not as theory, but in real time, with real stories. Key themes that emerged: Recovery capital We explored the difference between internal and external recovery capital. Community, fellowship, sport and service matter. But so do agency, confidence, access to work, and stable environments. Motivation alone is not enough if the system around someone is collapsing. Coaching vs counselling vs sponsorship We named the importance of role clarity. Coaching is forward-facing and agency-based. It does not replace therapy or mutual aid — but it is not either of those things. Confusion between roles creates risk. Courage and starting something new Several of you spoke about building organisations or stepping into leadership. Fear came up — especially fear of failure or responsibility. We acknowledged a hard truth: in this field, outcomes are not always within our control. Professionalism is not about perfection. It is about clarity, supervision, teamwork and learning. Listening for values When Marcus shared his vision for “Rooted not Booted”, the group reflected back the values they heard: fairness, accessibility, accountability, compassion. That is coaching in action. Humanity in the work We were reminded that this work is personal. Many of us carry lived experience of loss, harm, or systemic failure. The task is to turn that into skill — not to let it leak unexamined into the role. The words people checked out with today: Compassion. Grateful. Empowered. Informed. Motivated. Encouraged. Energised. Brave. That feels like movement. If you are building something — a LERO, a role, or simply your own stability — stay with the process. Clarity grows through conversation. See you next week.

Loving being part of this space! Lots to learn and think about. Maybe one day I’ll step out on my own, but for now I’m just soaking it all up.😊
