Communication Digestion Management
RECEIVE – INGEST INFORMATION Receiving is the moment information enters your awareness through listening, reading, observing, or asking questions. Like eating a meal, this stage begins quickly—usually within seconds or minutes—but taking in too much at once can make later processing more difficult. REVIEW – PROCESS INFORMATION Reviewing means slowing down to sort the message, identify its meaning, compare it with what you already know, and notice what may be missing. This resembles digestion in the stomach and small intestine, where food is broken down over roughly 2–6 hours; complex information may likewise require repeated reading, reflection, or clarification. APPLY – APPROPRIATION Applying is the stage in which you absorb the useful parts of the information, connect them to your situation, and decide what they mean for you. It is similar to nutrients being absorbed and used by the body over several hours. Simple ideas may become useful quickly, while major lessons can take days or longer to integrate. EXECUTE – FORMULATE AN ADEQUATE RESPONSE Executing means turning understanding into an appropriate and adequate response—speaking, writing, deciding, or acting. This compares to the body using absorbed nutrients and eliminating what it does not need, a process that may continue for about 24–72 hours after eating. A routine reply may take minutes, but a thoughtful response to complex information may take hours or days.

I like the way you’ve broken communication into stages here. It really shows that understanding isn’t just about receiving information, taking time to process it before responding can make a big difference. Which stage do you think people struggle with the most?
