👋 Introduce Yourself
We have some new faces here - and a few familiar ones too - so let’s make this our official intro spot. If you haven’t introduced yourself yet (or if it’s been a while), please jump in and share: ~Where you’re playing from ~One piece that made you wanna learn violin ~One thing you’re into besides violin Brand new? Returning after years away? Grinding nonstop? Either way, pull up a chair. (Photos welcome but no pressure!)

Hi I'm Norman Garringer. I live in a small town in Ohio called Chillicothe. I actually started playing after I had retired. My father had given me an old violin I had never done anything with so I thought I would try and learn it. I got started with Jenny as I had wanted to learn to play the Gael and found her video on you tube. I also play drums and have also started back on the piano.
Something new is coming to our community this spring.
Okay… I’ve been quietly building something. First, thank you for all the honest posts lately about what you’re working on and where you feel stuck. The path from intermediate to advanced has some very real challenges, and I’m super into taking that on with you. So this spring, we’re trying something new. It’s called Violin Dojo. Instead of everyone floating in different directions - and instead of you having to constantly decide how to fit everything into your practice - we’ll move through a shared seasonal focus together. Not to compete. Not to be intense. Just to have our heads in the same game, while leaving space for whatever songs and things are most calling to you on your individual hot violinist journey at the same time. Spoiler alert - our first focus will be Vibrato. The real goal? To feel less alone in your practice. To build some friendships here. And yes… to gain some serious skill along the way. More next week. 🎻 Meanwhile tell me in the comments. What fun projects or things are calling your name this spring? Violin or otherwise. For me: Violin: New Dojo videos and visual guides for advancing students Not violin: Repotting my poor neglected plants that I may have saved from the freeze, but definitely cut it a little too close. 😬

I could always use more practice at vibrato so yes I'm in with this plan.
Holiday Tune Share!
I was just sharing this oldie-but-goodie blooper video over at Patreon and it sparked me to start a holiday tune share here on the main group feed. If you have a holiday tune you've been practicing please set up by your Christmas tree, throw on a hat, and give it a spin! Mistakes and works in progress welcome. While the outside world may seem to define us by our mistakes and flaws, this is a rare online living room where we all completely understand what all goes into playing a violin tune. Our ears are different at this point and we can applaud each other for what parts are going right. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from my inner hot violinist to yours! xo, Jenny

This is my performance at church on Christmas Eve, which is why I didn't have a hat on although sometimes I think it might help with the nerves if I could. Plenty of mistakes but I thought I would share.

Thankyou, yes that is one thing I think I have overcome at least is to keep it going in spite of the mistakes. I have finally gotten my pc straightened out to where I can record again, so maybe I can start posting some again. I had wanted to record Auld Lang Sine but ran out of time again, maybe I'll try and get a late entry in sometime soon
LOTM Day is Nigh! Sep 25! Aka Thursday!
Hi all! Would you like to plan to post something this Thursday in honor of the day? I've created a new discussion category called "LOTM Day 2025 Tradition." I'm new to this Skool group thing, and we got started just a couple weeks before LOTM Day this year. If you'd like to participate in the holiday, please post your version or even the tiniest snippet in the tradition folder on Thursday. Some ideas that I've recommended to students this week: -Just your five-note-roll -Any 5-note roll practice step -Jig bowing rhythm on one open string -Any part of your A minor scale -A photo of your home viewing set up and snacks to watch Last of the Mohicans Then Friday we start prepping for next year! ;-) Here's a step by step video for practicing five note rolls.

Jenny I would like to give you a version of my lotm but my video recording on my pc is acting up, unless I figure out some other way of doing it. What time is this tonight and how do we all connect?
