But it was Awesome!!! We did a much deeper voice-agent experiment in Office Hours today than I originally planned. We started by asking a very practical question: How would we actually deploy an AI phone agent for a real client without making the client set up and manage Twilio themselves? So we tested a simple model. The client keeps their existing business phone number and forwards it to the Twilio number connected to the AI agent. The AI answers first, handles the opening conversation, and then routes the call to the right place. We tested three different versions of that today. First, we had the AI agent transfer calls to real people on their actual cell phones. Then we created separate live AI agents for Barbie and Charles, gave each one its own Twilio number, and transferred calls from one AI voice agent to another. Finally, we simplified the public demo and used a five-option IVR with live AI, prerecorded character voices, voicemail, recordings, and different call endings. So in one session we tested: AI receptionist → real employee AI receptionist → another live AI agent AI receptionist → IVR / voicemail / prerecorded response That’s the part I think is most useful. There isn’t one “voice agent setup.” There are multiple ways to design the call flow depending on the business. A call can go to a real employee, another AI, a department, voicemail, a recording, or another automation entirely. We also learned exactly where multi-step phone transfers get more complicated, which is the kind of thing you only really understand once you build it.
