Wow what a difference a week with sunshine can make

@Charlotte Sickels and I am home and it’s raining again
I will either thank myself or kick myself
As a way of building my soil, I added compost, but since I didn’t have enough and ran out of energy after shovelling by 4 yards, I opted to rake it into permanent beds with it the main garden. Since I also purchased raised beds and soil - ran out of budget to be able to get a worthy amount of compost. Instead, I purchased some cover crop. $20 in seeds goes further. It’s a little patchy but it’s growing. I have oats and crimson clover. The oats I will crimp in July and it will die off before flowering and I will leave it and let it compost. The crimson clover is *supposed* to winter kill. I am currently doubting myself, haha did I just create a weed situation for myself? I guess we’ll know next year. I am also going to throw down winter peas in late October for an early spring cover crop - I think.

It’s so cute!
Taking advantage of the rain
We filled all our tanks. The ground is soft so I started my first strawberry patch, saturated ground made easy to dig up the sod. I want to broadfork this when it’s a little dryer and then fill it with garden mix. Will do a 2nd one tomorrow.

After a night of rain, strawberry bed 2 is done. It will host my snap dragons this year, as the plants I had planned to transplant are in full bloom. So I will wait on those. I will enjoy the berries. I have another berry cage that will move over here

Straw mulch added and then I planted the strawberry crowns finally, it started to pour before I got a picture 🌧️ snap dragons are also in. Unless I find a home for the remaining tomatoes, all transplants are done. Next up potatoes … but we can’t work the soil it’s soooo wet. That bed didn’t get compost this spring. So very silty. Debating if I hunt down more straw and do a no dig garden instead.
I got my off grid garden planted!
My husband and I spent the weekend out at our off-grid camp, which meant I finally had time to get the garden planted out there. Back when we were building the campsites, we talked about how nice it would be to have a garden at camp. Then anytime we came out to stay, we'd have fresh food to harvest for our meals. The tricky part is the critter pressure out there. Moose, deer, rabbits, all of it. So whatever we built had to be fully enclosed. And the soil is pure sand, so raised beds were going to be a requirement too. That's actually where the design for the Daffodil came from. Our 10x12 enclosed raised garden, built to solve exactly those two problems. If you want to see how it's put together, the plans are here: https://thehillsidemarket.com/collections/diy-outdoor-projects/products/the-daffodil If you have any questions about this project, let me know!

I really love this one. If the deer netting doesn’t keep them out we’ll be looking at an iteration of this
