For the first 6 months of my business, I made exactly . . . ZERO SALES. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. 😭 And do you know what I was doing about it? Sitting on my couch watching Star Trek reruns, tweaking my logo, changing my fonts and colors, and writing blog posts no one was reading. Basically everything EXCEPT telling people my business existed. Eventually, I figured out the painfully obvious thing I’d been avoiding: No one was going to magically find me. I had to GO where my ideal clients already were, get in front of them, prove I had useful solutions, and give them a reason to come back to my website. So I started leaving helpful comments on blogs and YouTube videos. Not 5 comments and then taking a nap. Not “I’ll do some outreach when I have time” and doom scrolling for hours. My goal was 80 comments PER DAY, and within 3 months, I grew my email list to more than 3,000 people and finally started getting paying clients. Fast-forward to today, and I now earn $30K months. The specific marketing tactics have changed since 2011, thank goodness. 😂 But the lesson hasn’t: You need to get in front of your ideal clients, and you need to do A LOT more outreach than you’re doing now. Posting randomly and hoping someone notices you isn’t a marketing strategy. Waiting for people to start conversations with YOU isn’t a marketing strategy. Your business probably isn’t broken.
