Putting in round windows
I realize that this is a finishing phase of the building process that few of you are actually able to apply currently but I thought you might it interesting. It’s nice to have wooden shutters because you can have the windows completely open during the day without a screen and then close them at night when the mosquitoes are active. The color you see on the outside is a Lime wash with a green iron oxide added and also a brown oxide on the inside. It is a clay paint made up of equal parts flour paste, very fine sand, clay and oxide for color. I also added a little bit of peppermint essential oil for a nice subtle fragrance and also to help keep insects out of the structure. We’ll see if it helps.

@Shannon Carpenter me too, prices start at $700 Canadian, it's too big a financial hit for me too. Unfortunately I'm at level 5 still, so no extra savings. Looks like a beautiful fantastic place!

Doing a lime wash over a lime plaster
Hey y’all, just thought I’d share with you my technique of applying a lime wash over lime plaster to give it the final color and protection from water. It’s a super satisfying part of the building process to put the final touches on a cobin. There are also limestone sealers that can be applied over the lime wash for added protection, however I have never seen the need for it. A couple coats of lime wash should do the trick. You can use regular Type S lime as hydraulic lime is hard to get now.

I understand that it needs to be misted prior to putting it on but doesn't need to be misted after?

Blocked access to new cobin course on concrete foundation
Hi @Sir Cobalot I'm trying to access the new course you added last month but it's asking me to verify that I'm not a bot and when I go to sign in as requested it sends me an error message. Would you or @Aziel Fearon be able to help me please? πŸ™

Making a round door
In case you would like to make a round door for your palletable cobin, this is how I like to do it. To make the actual door, I’ll be using redwood boards and doubling them up to make it 2 inches thick and will put some big hobbit style hinges on them. To make the cob stick to the smooth plywood I’ll make a flour paste and add course sand to that then paint that on the smooth surface. Will be starting to build the roof today 😊
