Palletable Cobin update
Hey y’all, here’s a little video showing where I’m at with the latest Cobin project… As you can see I finished framing it today, which took about 5 days in all and I’ll be l to apply the earthen cob plaster tomorrow… should be all done in just a few weeks… As you can see these structures do require a fair amount of old Scrap wood so you will need to secure a good course before you begin your project.

Project update on our hobbit cobin
Project is coming along well… Just about finished with the framing, ready to start cobbing this weekend ! Wish more forks in this community lived closer to me and could come down to help with the cobbing, as that is the extra fun part. I’m really excited about this project, it’s a great place to feature the Palletable Cobin design.

Very nice design! love the new roof style.. seems it would be easier to install and provides larger area and the bathroom attached is very convenient.. I also like tree beam look on the finished unit .. If you give me heads up on time starting the new unit you will start.. I might be able to make it to help and learn something new.. Cob along ...
Insulation
Filled the pallets with straw for insulation. Not much to say here, just posting to show everybody. It’s part of the process. Goes in pretty easy, put the straw in the top and shove it down with a stick. Couple of times the pallet boards popped open, but was pretty easy to reattach. I got the straw on Facebook marketplace, because it was half the price I would pay at tractor supply. But it’s completely filled with goat heads, very prickly, painful seed pods, I hope I don’t get a weed infestation from this. One bale of straw filled about 3 pallets, and only ended up needing 3 bales to fill the 11 pallets.

Nice progress work! Love the kittycober blending with the theme ;) What would be the best insulation to fill between the pallets? is straw the best ? I saw one youtube where they add clay to the straw and pack it or compress it down .. Dose that add any value to the insulation and the structure ?

@Matt Brna I saw some youtubers Asian cobb technique where they add mud silt to the straw and pack it between the wood frames or say Pallets in our case and it sounded good and that it would provide mass for insulation, but I don't know for sure and was hoping for feedback if anyone tried it..
