Be Proud of The Business You’ve Designed. The Real Secret For Lifeboat Winners to Growing Your Business… Know your numbers.
You have entered the “Builder” phase of your business and here is what you need to know in order to grow to the next level. Skool and Substack are different tools doing different jobs. Substack is your front porch… where people find you, read your thinking for free, and decide if they trust you or not. Skool is your living room… where the people who already trust you pay to stay, learn, and connect with each other. Confusing the two roles is the #1 startup mistake: Trying to sell hard on Substack (which kills the free-reading vibe that grows your list) or trying to attract strangers on Skool (which isn't built for cold discovery, it's built for retention)... is not the correct way to build your Lifeboat business. Bro marketing is out and trust marketing is in. So, what it actually takes to win: The engine that works is: Substack builds the audience and proves you can teach something valuable, for free, consistently. Skool turns your most engaged readers into paying members of a community or course. Without Substack (or something like it), Skool has no front door and nobody finds you. Without Skool (and a paid offer), Substack is just a hobby that doesn't pay rent. A few concrete things separate winners from people who quit at month four: First, one clear promise for one specific person. Not "wealth education for everyone"… but Something like "I teach women starting their first online business how to get their first 10 paying clients." Vague niches don't convert because nobody feels like the content was written for them. Next, showing up on a schedule longer than feels comfortable. This is the ambition to mission move your business is making right now. In the Substack algorithm they reward consistency over virality… Note that now A weekly post for a year beats ten viral posts spread randomly. Most people give up around month 3-4, right before momentum usually starts. Next, knowing your real math. On Substack, if you charge $10/month, platform and payment fees take roughly 13-16%, so you keep about $8.36-$8.70 per subscriber.

I need to work on building my inventory. This was really encouraging because I am in the building phase and I can see how things are coming together.

This was a really great class. Understanding the difference between ambition and mission helps me recognize where my focus should be as a I build. The runway and off-ramp analogy was really awesome. This is a great way to look at how to intentionally create pathways that help people looking for what I offer to find it.

Today’s call changed how I looked at “ putting my self out there”. Thank you for explaining why doing more advertising and having fewer buttons to buy can affect sales. Also the value of Testimonials and why it’s important to get them. Before, I thought I needed a program that people were buying first and a large following to validate them. So thank you for teaching on that.
