How good is your balance?
I've noticed that none of the elderly people I work with is able to do the exercise I'm going to explain. The person is in the position of the picture you see below (arms open or close whether we want to decrease or increase the difficulty respectively). Few patients are able to keep their balance in a heel-to-toe position (or tandem stance), but when I asked them to completely turn their head to the right and to the left (while, of course, maintining this position) it simply becomes impossible to keep their balance and they need to quickly hold onto something not to fall. This exercice clearly creates 'sensory conflict' since it implies a vestibular stimulation and it breaks the visual dependency of staring at a fixed point, requiring a greater implication of proprioception. If you feel like giving it a try, I would love to hear your thoughts ☺️

Time outdoors! 🤗
I spend much more time outdoors this weekend than I usually do (trying to get outdoors more and more). I'm reading a lot at this moment about the MYRIAD of benefits of being outdoors and exposed to the sunlight, so I hope that you all had the opportunity to enjoy some time outside this weekend as well!

Simple real-life steps in the right direction, nothing extreme. For now, you can find a basic pain course in the Classroom but I would love, if you feel like sharing it with us here, which health-related topic(s) are you most interested in and/or what would you like to know about mobility and strength in more detail! And, of course, do not hesitate to ask if you have any question! ❤️
