I often contemplate the word forgiveness seeing that generosity is part of that word. There’s a line in one of Gord Downie’s poems that says “is life just forgetting?” I think part of the reason we forget who we really are is because we focus on identifying, on getting. Consciousness is interesting because it cannot identify with anything from a thought to a body to a name to a career, etc. I think one of the highest forms of forgiving is recognizing that love is at the core and root of who we are and all of life and that it has no opposite. When we’ve made our amends with ourselves and all of those who have harmed or hurt us or who we have harmed and hurt, I believe then we enter into perfect alignment with love, and all of our challenges will be given a higher meaning. Today that’s what I think of when I think of forgiving.
