Attic Find: My Treasured 1890s Puffy-Sleeve Jacket" 🕰️✨🧵🖤💰
Now it's my turn to show you a treasured piece: a jacket I unearthed in the attic ( Alba la Romaine ). It's in excellent condition; a hand wash has restored its freshness. I love it! I wear it with jeans and a touch of lipstick for special occasions in the transitional seasons. I'm lucky that it fits me like a glove, without needing a corset! This is a beautiful old jacket, probably from the late 19th century. It dates from about 1890 to 1905. The jacket has large puffy sleeves near the shoulder. This style was very popular in the 1890s. The jacket is fitted closely around the body. It has a short ruffle, called a peplum, at the waist. The dark decorations on the front are called passementerie (braiding). This detail makes the jacket look elegant. This piece was worn by women of the upper and middle classes. It was a type of day outfit or light jacket. It was usually worn with a long, matching skirt to make a suit. The black color suggests it was a standard city garment. It could also have been used for half-mourning. In good condition, the jacket could sell for between $160 and $860 today. The final price depends on the quality and where it is sold.

Very nice jacket, and very elaborately made, but I didn't understand what material the black embellishment was made of.
@Serge Gray I think there was still plenty of snow two days after it snowed, but today, I think there's no snow there at all. It's all melted. We were lucky because it was sunny and there was a lot of snow!

🥐 The Story of the Croissant 🥐
The croissant is considered the undisputed KING of French breakfast pastries 👑 Some vocabulary . Hörnchen ( Austria)= little horn Viennoiseries ( French) = Viennese pastries: ALWAYS WITH REAL BUTTER ! (AOP butter) Croissant = (dough with yeast + Puff pastry ) MY FAVORITE ( number 1) Pain au chocolat = chocolate croissant ( dough with yeast + Puff pastry) (number 2) Then: Chausson aux pommes = apple turnover (without yeast but only Puff pastry + apples ) Croissant aux amandes = Like croissant + almonds But with yeast Pain au raisin =Raisin swirl ( douph with yeast + Puff pasrtry) And only dough with yeast : Brioche Parisienne = Parisian Brioche (Brioche with a Head ) Brioche au sucre = Brioche with pearl sugar Brioche au praline =Praline Brioche (Brioche with candied almonds/hazelnuts) Each pastry has its own characteristics. And pay attention :Viennoiseries are not the same as pastries! ( It will be another story ) BTW :( For more than 40 years , I start everyday with a croissant and a large black coffee , sugar free. I'm still in good health !, There is very few sugar inside a croissant ) 🥐☕💖

Hörnchen is the usual word for pastries in Germany, but Kipferl comes from Austria and originates from Turkish siege, meaning crescent moon.

I’m flying to Germany for a business trip today from Istanbul Airport . It’s a huge and busy airport, but everything is smooth so far. Excited to test my English during the trip. Wish me luck!
