Marketing Tip #3
WEEKLY RHYTHM (3 POSTS A WEEK) because it wakes up the algorithm to show the potential audience what you offer. You don’t need more than this. There are different kinds of posts, you know, we could use a short reel on Instagram, text based ones on social media and your own websites, longer form videos on YouTube, LinkedIn for more professional style ones. It's going to depend on what you are marketing. I'm sharing the ideas that I've used as a writer, teacher, artist...and yes, this world is constantly changing and the sands shift under my feet. My advice or suggestion is this, pick a platform. Just one. Don't overwhelm yourself. Use one prompt, no context dump as such but a thought out question or excerpt or clip of what you are offering. That’s all. No call to action, no offer, no explanation, just get yourself noticed with this one type of post. Then we'll mix it up with other kinds, adding hashtags and keywords. We'll get to that later this week. Seth Godin writes, "Consistency is the secret. Consistency of showing up, consistency of your message, consistency of your tone. The public has an instinct for authenticity." So be yourself. Share your passions.

Marketing Challenge for May
Considering how you wanted ideas for marketing, I'll start posting some for the rest of the month and if needed, longer. They are all short and sweet, things you can do, think about and act upon. I put them all together in a course in the Classroom and will use some of that list but I'll also do more current research and share suggestions with you here. They might seem simplistic and obvious but have you done them yet? I'll try to find the research to back them up too. If you are the Type A personality, here is a list to play with. For the B- folks like me, pick one idea and act when so inspired. Well, recent content analyses show that the massive industry shift from traditional long-form content to short-form content is a direct response to declining user attention spans in the digital age (Towpek, 2026). Short form attracts the attention of the algorithm and if a wide audience watches and interacts, it then shares to an even wider audience. Shorts also feed the dopamine addiction of smart phones and if engaging enough sends the audience to look for more from you, on or off YT. So, first challenge is as followed. Post your thoughts and results below. - Record a short reel on your topic of expertise and post to YouTube and Instagram (or one other place but keep it easy for yourself). Watch that the title captures the content and niche. Be concise and under 2 minutes to reach more people. Check your hashtags.

I’m a part of an incubator program here in Bordeaux, and we had an interesting discussion about this yesterday as it came up within a conversation about testing prototypes… It made me realize I was apparently neglecting am entire demographic of 18-25 year olds. With focusing on a longer form platform , they don’t have the attention span for it and aren’t necessarily interested in forming complete communities online- well, maybe they are, but they’re not so much into committing to it. But conversations over the past week or so has drawn straight back to what your suggesting above… I have to get on YouTube. My daughter was telling me last week… then, my mentor was asking me, don’t you use YouTube? Absolutely. I basically rebuilt my entire house before selling and learned how to via YouTube University. It’s crazy how sometimes answers sit right down in front of you.

@Sarah Leamy, MFA I think it depends on your needs… How do you want the main community to function? My thought when I saw this was the analogy about the free couch… Say you have this nearly brand new super designer cool kids only couch that just doesn’t fit in your space. So, instead of selling it you decide to put it out on the curb with the *free* sign on it for some lucky individual to happen upon and make their day. But, nobody touches the couch… So, you put a sign on it that says, $5. The couch is stolen nearly immediately (and probably then sold on marketplace 😂). On one hand, being invested makes people show up more… A lot of people are new to the Skool platform so we aren’t just selling our communities, we are selling them on staying engaged on the platform as a whole. On the other hand, I know that several of the people that have joined my community aren’t really that interested in actually cooking… but they will be there to cheer others on. So not everything that I put out to the main community is about doing the work… but maybe more about just building a community around food. Like how not everyone that enjoys writers can write… but they sure do think writers are cool and love to offer feedback.

@Sarah Leamy, MFA Yes, absolutely… and I am always open to requests and feedback!! I’ve spent a lot of time the past little bit getting my summer camp stuff up but have more on the works for adults too. My computer is at the repair shop currently… it’s been a long few days. I will say… Mexican food is what I miss most about living in the US. I’m determined to find some good pepper plants!
Take a Walk!
Assignment #7 is to take a Creative Wander: Go somewhere that feels like a crossroads — a bus station, a bookshop, a café, a park bench by a trailhead. Observe transitions. Write about where you’re coming from and where you feel pulled next. Comment below as to how this exercise was for you. Thanks!
