The countries first Black Led Psychedelic Faciltator training program is here!
Breaking Ground: Why Black-Led Psychedelic Facilitator Training Is a Vital Step for Collective Healing By: Moudou Baqui The psychedelic renaissance is here, promising revolutionary breakthroughs for treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, and addiction. But as the field expands, a critical question remains: Who is being left behind? Historically, clinical trials and training programs have been predominantly White, often overlooking the unique needs, rich histories, and sacred healing traditions of Black communities. To truly fulfill the promise of these medicines, we must address the systemic barriers—from the legacy of the War on Drugs to ongoing medical mistrust—that have obstructed access to care. We are thrilled to announce a significant step toward equity in mental health: The launch of, the first entirely Black-led psychedelic facilitator training programs. THE NEW GRIOT Here is why centering Black leadership in psychedelic training is not just important—it is essential for collective healing. 1. Bridging the Trust Gap through Cultural Safety For many Black Americans, medical settings are not associated with safety; they are associated with historical and ongoing discrimination. In psychedelic therapy, where patients enter extremely vulnerable states of consciousness, this lack of trust can become a barrier to therapeutic breakthrough. Having a facilitator who shares a lived experience can create an immediate container of cultural safety. When a client doesn't feel the need to "armor" themselves against potential microaggressions or misunderstandings, they can more fully surrender to the healing process. Trust is the foundation of psychedelic healing, and representation builds trust. 2. Acknowledging and Healing Racial Trauma Racial trauma is a distinct form of PTSD caused by the continuous "grind of race-based mistreatment". Traditional, Western clinical models often fail to recognize, let alone treat, this specific form of suffering. Black-led training programs are uniquely positioned to equip facilitators with the tools needed to navigate the complexities of racial and intergenerational trauma. These programs understand that healing is not just an individual journey; it is also a collective process of addressing the wounds inflicted by systemic oppression.
