@Jonathan McCoy In the end ACES or AGX are just view transforms. A view transform has an impact on how colors and light behave visually. It is a mapping thing. Internally you have the full spectrum, which is why the image will look completely different if you render a linear 32bit exr. In that case you apply the view transform later in post. The view transform you have used still has implications on the final result since your lighting will have been adapted to what you have seen WITH the view transform. So if you have lit your scene in AGX, render linear, and then want to apply a ACES transform in post the final result will look different. From all the view transforms ACES has the biggest green spectrum, and since green is the color we humans can differenciate the most this is a good benefit. It generally has a very wide gamut and is the standard in movie production. This is important since you would need to prepare your renders in the same view transform as the rest of the production is working in since the contrasts and color values need to match. If not it can look like 90s CGI ;)
