Mapping out your story helps to clarify things before you begin writing. Some writers are good with just flowing. There is no right or wrong way it's just easier when you have a plan. Map out: Genre - what story you are telling and to who. Characters - who are the main players? Protagonist? Antagonist? Supporting characters? Environment - where do your characters interact (what kind of environment are they in) Location - where does the story take place? Personally when I have given myself room to think about the above mentioned things it made writing so much easier.
