To answer your question, I had an interview recently where I was given a scenario and asked how I would deal with it if I was the agent accountable. The thought of answering in a way that reflected on my experience as I am met with these scenarios almost everyday in my current job did not come to me. Instead, my brain focused more on answering in a way that aligns perfectly with the job I applied for which became a disaster of an answer in opinion. But I learnt from that. Saw my mistake. I am teaching myself not to repeat it.

It's actually funny you ask, because I asked myself the same question right after the interview ended. Came up with so many different ways i could have answered. All of my answers at that time were way better than how I answered. I would actually apply the 2 to 3 second rule that you mentioned. Structure my response based on the experience i have. Not overcompensate the response. And show my true self instead of a trying to find a generic answer that I THINK would be the best fit for that role.
