Overloading Players With Too Much Information
One of the biggest mistakes I see cricket coaches make is overloading players with information. We try to fix everything at once… give them five technical cues at the same time… and they just can’t process it all. Here’s the truth: players learn best when they focus on ONE thing at a time. So here’s a few tips to keep your coaching clear and effective: - Pick ONE key focus per drill. If your working on a specific thing, stay on that. Don’t suddenly start talking about footwork, bat path ect all at once. - Keep explanations short. If you can’t explain it in 10–15 seconds, it’s probably too much. If you can explain everything under one breath, that would be great. - Use clear, simple language. Avoid technical jargon unless you know they understand it. The goal is clarity, not complexity. - And finally: show, don’t just tell. A quick demo or a visual is often more powerful than a long explanation /overload of info Remember: the player’s brain is like a sponge, but it can only soak up so much at a time. Keep it simple, keep it clear, and let them learn through doing.
