🍓 Academy Week 5: Do HARD Things [pinned post]
Replay is up in the Classroom. Make sure you comment your answers in this post as you go thru the recording so I know what you're thinking. Much easier to provide feedback!! Look, so far we've covered: ✅ Goal Setting (the in-depth version) ✅ Michael Phelps breathing trick ✅ Visualization ✅ Basic nutrition for swimmers ✅ Desired identity statement ✅ You've gathered A LOT of evidence that supports your new identity 🔥 Keep the momentum going, 5 more weeks until we know who wins a brand new race suit of your choice!!! More and more fire badges are starting to appear I love it!! In today's training we have time for questions to make sure we're not leaving anybody behind. After that, we do a little magic together ok? It's gonna be workshop-style which means I'll ask you a series of questions that you can just answer in the comments. And at the end, you'll all have a massive done-and-ready improvement for this week. - No breakout rooms - No having to speak in front of everyone else ☺️

Counties Dorset
Daisy had her 800 free this weekend. She dropped 36 seconds. Down from 11.57 to 11.21. She’s feeling pumped for her 1500 free this weekend.

Well done, way to go! Go get a pb on the 1500!
SE Wales Long Course Regionals
This weekend was my second meet of 2026 - south east Wales long course regionals. It was held in my home pool, and overall went pretty well. Saturday: 200 back - 2:38.32, was only a second off my pb so was a solid swim but I was already worrying a bit about the next one. 200 brs - 2:59.35, this was an interesting one. I was really nervous but took David's advice of going with the flow and investigating why rather than trying to patch it up. This did actually help a bit - don't get me wrong I still felt nervous, but it felt good to try something new. Dived in, came straight up and had a panic attack to the point where I actually ended up sculling parts of the first 50 just to breathe - I nearly stopped after 50, mum ran down the balcony in case she had to pull me out. Second 50 I settled into it and actually got going, 3rd 50 I came 'steam rolling through the field' (as my coach put it), last 50 I was then exhausted from trying to fight my way back. 200 free - 2:18.44, a 0.19 second pb!!! It doesn't seem like much but it's my first pb on this event in like 18 months. Swam a really good race even though for half of it I couldn't see anyone (end lane), and came away with a bronze. Super excited. Sunday: 100 brs - 1:23.18;, no sculling this time!! Controlled my breathing to prevent a panic first 25, then got going, second 50 felt really good. Coach was happy. I got to go home after this for a few hours as I wasn't in the middle session. 400 free - my favourite of the whole meet. 4:49.16!!!!!!!! Massive pb - 8.54 seconds off from summer nationals! Also won my heat from lane 6 against home club competitors, and felt really powerful all the way through. Game plan from coach was build through arms first 50, build through legs second 50, then 300 'fight for your life in the trenches 😭'. I haven't swim this one this season before today, so I just went out hard and held it. Mum was on poolside officiating and told me afterwards that it looked like a suicide swim 🥴. She thought I'd gone mad.

Well done, congratulations
First weekend of counties
I couldn't decide which category to put this in since it had a mix of both, anyway I swam 2 races this weekend, 1 each day which were: 50 Fly, 50 Back. 50 Fly: 30.09, this one made me confused since I should go 29 but what made it the 30 makes sense, basically my kicks during the stroke came too much from the knees which added a lot of drag and overall lack of speed. My coach said that the intensity was good the whole way but that one thing ruined it. This most likely also contributes to why I feel like I cant hold the fly as well as I usually do. This is a good thing aswell since that would mean that if I fix that one little problem I can go those better times. 50 Back: 31.53, PB but not a good one in my opinion. Similar to the fly, one little thing made me lose a lot of speed, and the awesome thing was that its not my endurance or stroke rate dropping off or anything like that, but the fact that I was going into both lane ropes 😂 like a snake🐍. I dont know why this was but I'm guessing that its either the London aquatics centre ceiling (you can only understand if you've swam backstroke there) or just the fact my technique started to degrade as I swam the race because most of the time I feel quite out of control swimming the 50 back. This was also mentioned by my coach that as I swam the 50 my catch started getting better, which is funny. So yeah thats my whole review of this weekend, I would see it as a win and learning.
