Hi everybody. 30 yr. experienced Civil Engineer/Land Surveyor. I got tired of getting bad aerials and long turn over time by some of the local drone companies. I decided to do it myself. I am working on my part 107, I will be taking the test in a couple of weeks. I have a DJI 3 Mini 3 pro that I have been using for personal use. As an experiment, I flew a 5 acre site that we had flown by another company a few weeks ago. With a bit or research on my part and maybe a bit of luck I was able to produce a better aerial than the product that was given to us. I used WebODM to compile the aerials, I used the same ground control points that were previously used and produced an orthophoto. I was able to get the photo adjusted (simple scaling and rotation) to within 0.15' of each of the ground targets. The other companys photo was within 0.5' of the same points. Needless to say the simple hobbyist drone is going to be part of my kit now. For small jobs, it's going to be great. I also look at the possibility of expanding into a full service aerial agency.
