@Danny Guitar Rogers Way to go! Sounding good Danny!
First post / Clarifying "How High the Moon"
Hey guys, first post here. Clarifying minor conversion theory here over How High the Moon. I had to re-go through Linear Conversions because I thought you started formations on the ii chord as if it were Dorian - so my initial chord set-up was wrong when approaching the tune. If I look at the first handful of bars of How High the Moon, we get: G major (2 bars) = E minor formations ii-V-I in F major (4 bars) = D minor formations ii-V-I in E major (3 bars) = C minor formations Amb75 > D7b9 (1 bar - short) = G minor formations Gm7 (1 bar) - G minor formations Amb75 > D7b9 (1 bar - short) = G minor formations G major (1 bar) > Am7 > D7 (1 bar-short) = E minor formations Is this right? I had it wrong initially and was doing formations in A over G major, formations in G over G minor (> Fmaj), and formations in F over F minor (> Eb maj).

@Andrew Milligan Let me see if I can clear up your confusion. In the key of Fmaj, Gm is Dorian. Over the ii -V (Gm - C7) you would play the Gm formations (activities). Your choices are formation 1 (Gm), formation 2 (Gm/Bb), formation 3 (Gm/D) or formation 4 (Gm/F). Over the I (Fmaj) you could play the formations in D minor or play the G minor formations over the whole ii-V-I. I hope this helps.
Five Activities or Four Formations
I first got interested in Pat Martino’s minor conversion method from a post on a jazz guitar forum. Forum members recommended getting the book “Linear Expressions” and learning the jazz lines. There was some discussion of their interpretation of minor conversion and some posted playing the Activities. That’s where it stopped. You had to be Pat Martino to improvise with these lines. I did some research, found Armin’s videos and ultimately purchased his course. I learned the jazz lines from the book “Linear Expressions”. This was before I took the course and before Amir graciously made his Formations available on YouTube. I also learned you don’t have to be Pat Martino to improvise with these lines. Which jazz lines did you learn - Pat Martino’s five Activities or Amir’s four Formations?

@Danny Guitar Rogers I’m going to do some voice leading with formations as soon as I figure out how to do it on my computer.

@Carlos Pellot I believe minor conversion is the key to jazz improvisation. I found two things useful with this approach. 1. Watch all of Armin’s YouTube videos. They are a wealth of information. 2. Join Armin Mir’s Mentorship program. It goes into greater depth for applying the formations. The videos are invaluable and there is always Armin’s help. I hope you will be playing again soon Thanks Carlos.

Armin, thanks for the invite. I started with reading and working with Pat Martino's "Linear Expressions" book. The book gives good insight into getting started with the Activities and minor conversion. However, I was looking for more depth into the method so I purchased Armin's "Improvisation Made Simple" course. I'm currently working on internalizing the formations and getting deeper into the method. Thanks Armin, it's a great course for developing the method. I look forward to participating and contributing to the group.

I've played guitar for a number of years and getting into jazz. Trying to get a good handle on improvisation.
