THE DOCTOR’S PRESCRIPTION “You do not need everyone to understand your evolution in order to honor it.” THE DIAGNOSIS There comes a point in your growth when the person you are becoming will no longer fit the expectations people have placed on you. And that’s where many people stop. Not because they lack potential. Not because they lack opportunity. But because somewhere along the way, they became addicted to permission. Permission to change. Permission to dream bigger. Permission to establish boundaries. Permission to leave what no longer fits. Permission to become someone others have never experienced before. We often say we want transformation—until transformation requires disappointing someone’s expectations of us. But here’s the prescription: You cannot ASCEND while constantly asking people who are comfortable with your current altitude for permission to climb. THE PRESCRIPTION Give yourself permission to evolve. Growth will sometimes make people uncomfortable because they’ve built a relationship with a version of you that you are outgrowing. That’s okay. You don’t have to become disrespectful. You don’t have to become arrogant. And you certainly don’t have to abandon the people you love. But you must stop abandoning yourself to keep everyone else comfortable. Some people will understand your growth. Some will question it. Some will celebrate it. Others may resist it. None of those responses determine whether you have permission to continue. Your assignment is not to remain recognizable. Your assignment is to remain aligned. ASCEND INSIGHT ASCENSION requires separation before elevation. Not necessarily separation from people—but separation from identities, beliefs, behaviors, and expectations that belong to an earlier version of you. Think about a seed. The seed cannot remain intact and become the tree. Something must break. Something must change. Something that once protected it eventually has to be released. The same is true for you. There are versions of yourself that helped you survive one season but cannot lead you into the next. Honor who you were. Learn from who you were. Then give yourself permission to become who you’re called to be.
