I know I'm an outlier due to my age, but what got me started a year ago was that it seemed like a good way to further improve my balance. I had a stroke five years before that and had been working on improving my balance subsequently, and somehow I just got the idea that learning to skateboard would be a progression to aid my improvement. Obviously I didn't realise what I was getting into! but I'm good at working things out and taking things slowly and quickly found it was exactly what I'd hoped for, challenging but rewarding at the same time, and I really like it. I don't think I have unrealistic expectations, just want to keep on at my pace without injury and see how far I can go - an Ollie is my current goal which I think I'm capable of.
